Phenix City is a city in Marshall County, Alabama, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2000 census. Phenix City is the county seat of Marshall County. The town of Phenix City was platted in 1873 and named after nearby Phenix River. The first store in town was opened by Wm. A McDonald and his brother-in-law, Anson Daly, on December 3, 1873. In 1906, Nathan Bedford Forrest purchased the town from its original owners for $10 per acre (phenixcitytoday) As an early settler in this area of Alabama there were many holster manufacturers who produced holsters for both law enforcement officers and civilian use. It should be noted that these holster companies did not produce any pistols or revolvers as this type of equipment was not common at the time they were created. However some holster companies such as Hogue & Hastings made pistols which were used by law enforcement officers until around 1890 when their product line ended due to prohibition laws which required handguns to be registered with the government Holster manufacturing had began to boom during World War I as soldiers needed storage devices for their pistols while on campaign or deployment overseas It wasn't until much later that pistol production resumed again following repeal of Prohibition When World War II started many Americans decided to stay behind and help fight against Nazi Germany However once the war ended many Americans returned home and Colt Firearms decided to sell their Holster Division back to Quaker Oats Company . This event marked a change in Colt Firearms fortunes as Quaker Oats Company became interested in producing firearms only . After slowly rebuilding its Holster Division over several years it re-introduced ProductionOrdnanceProduction Ordnance products into the market place under new name Milspec Manufacturing Corporation effective January 1st 1958

Phenix City, Alabama was founded as a small town in 1875. The area that is now Phenix City was first inhabited by the Creek Nation of Native Americans and then by European settlers. In 1865, General Robert E. Lee and Confederate forces fought a battle at Fort Donelson in Phenix City. After the battle, General Lee ordered his men to leave the town and return home because he felt it would be too dangerous for them to stay there.

By the late 1700s, certain types of pistols were becoming increasingly difficult to grip with bare hands so it was necessary to find an adapted holster design which would allow them to be wielded safely with gloves on hand equipped with a rifle or shotgun. One such development was the Colt 1851 “Butterfly” pistol which featured a molded shoulder strap that accommodated a revolver's barrel within the pistol grip area [1]. This adaptation allowed shooters to holding their rifles close at arm's length without having any risk of dropping or losing their firearm. The success of this design led Colt followed up with other refinements including Thatcham Type I (1858), Thatcham Type II (1860), Colt Model 1861 Pistol Backstrap (1861), Colt Model 1865 Pistol Bandolier Holster (1866), and Colt Model 1873 Rifle/Shotgun Combo Holster (1875). Gunsmiths soon found they needed another way hold their handguns while wearing gloves in order to protect their hands from sandpaper burns or other forms of damage caused by gripping an ungloved hand; hence came basic miliary style retention devices known today as "QD" sights or quick Dismount sights - see illustration below left ). QD sights first appeared on select M16 rifles in 1978[2] but had long been available on carbines & shotguns

It is the seat of Lowndes County and part of the Phenix City, Alabama Micropolitan Statistical Area. The area around Phenix City was first inhabited by the Muscogee people. The town was named after General James Wilkinson's victory over Creek Indians at Battle of Bradford on July 4, 1814. The Battle marked a turning point in American history as George Washington's army defeated British forces under Sir John Moore. In 1819, Wilkinson donated land to make up for what he felt were wrongs done to him during his military career. In 1831, Phenix City became part of Mobile County when it was created from parts of several other counties. In 1836, Andrew Jackson was elected president and began his "New Deal." One of its initiatives was the Agricultural Adjustment Act which aimed to improve farming conditions in America by providing subsidies to farmers. This program proved successful and helped bring about increased agricultural production throughout America. After leaving office in 1840, Jackson moved back to Tennessee where he died two years later. He is buried in Oak Lawn Cemetery in Memphis., Tennessee
Phenix City was founded in 1857 as a small town in Scott County, Alabama. It grew quickly and by 1860 it had a population of over 1,000 people. By 1865, the town had become an important trading post between the Appalachian Mountains and Mobile Bay. In 1871, Phenix City became the capital of Scott County after it was chosen by the General Assembly as the new county seat. The city continued to grow and by 1907 its population had reached 3,500 people. In 1913, Phenix City was renamed to Montgomery after Ulysses S. Grant served as president of Alabama during that year's campaign for re-election. The city also played a significant role during World War I as a supply center for military forces fighting on both sides of the war.
