By 1830, there were more than 5 stores and 130 residents living in Phenix City when it incorporated as a city under the name "Fenton" with JAMES CAMPBELL elected Mayor from that year until 1840 when WALTER EASTLEY took office after being elected Sheriff ofJefferson County for two years..
