Pell City, Alabama is located in the state of Alabama and has a population of over 12,000. Pell City is a small town that was founded in 1881 by Welsh immigrants. The name Pell City comes from the Welsh word for "plain." The town was originally situated on the Talladega River, but it moved to its current location in 1887. Today, the town has a population of around 15 residents and consists of a small shopping center, two churches, and four municipal buildings. It is also home to the Pell City High School baseball team and the Pell City Panthers soccer team. The history of Pell City dates back to 1881 when Welsh immigrant Samuel Porter set out from his home country with three horses and $10 to start a new life in America. Porter arrived in Mobile County, Alabama on December 5th with his family and made his way to what is now Pell City. He first began trading goods he had acquired while working as an overseer on land grants given to him by Governor George Wallace. In 1886, Porter erected a house on Main Street in downtown PellCity which served as his business office until 1893 when he built himself a larger structure next door which still stands today. From here, Porter started selling goods such as flour, bacon, eggs, milk and other items from wagonloads into surrounding towns until he finally established himself as one of Mobile County's leading merchants. By 1893, Porter had become successful enough that he decided to move his company permanently from Mobile County into rural Alabama where it would remain headquartered until 1967 when it relocated again (this time to Decatur) due to regional competition from nearby Birmingham's Sears stores dominance within the industry at that time. In 1925-1926 Drayton Waddell worked for Samuel Porter at their store before moving downriver full-time to join him there five years later after serving as supervisor at Pensacola's Price Chopper Department Store during that period meantime having also taught nursery school children howto read between jobs while working there too! In 1927 Waddell returned fire during an argument with customers at their store after they refused To pay for an extra round of cigarettes they had been offered; this event led eventually lead all other Price Chopper stores throughout southeast Florida closed their doors following Waddell's arrest for misdemeanor battery subsequently resulting in fines totaling $2 per occurrence rather than just $1 like then law did! During this same time period memories associated with Sammie Porter continue long past dusty shelves behind Price Chopper; many people who have visited or live near PellCity remember feeling comfortable coming up against no one because everyone knew sammie would never hurt them! As prices began dropping throughout midwestern America due largely to World War II shortages resultant from Germany's collapse John Geddes opened Geddes' Discount Stores chain out OF Mobile county beginning operations April 1st 1945 inside what are now known locally as Geddes Tower!!
