The Pell City Shooting Club was founded in 1899 and has been a part of the community for over 100 years. The club offers target shooting classes, several tournaments each year, and a variety of other events. In addition to target shooting, the club also sponsors numerous amateur competitions including the Alabama Open Championship, which is one of the largest amateur rifle matches in the United States.

Pell City is located in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, United States. The population was 1,611 at the 2010 census. Pell City is a small town situated on the north side of Birmingham, about 12 miles (19 km) east of downtown Birmingham and 8 miles (13 km) west of the city's airport. The first two settlers in Pell City were John Willingham and his brother James Willingham. They came to live in what is now Pell City on April 2, 1833. John Willingham had been born in 1794 in Cumberland County, Maryland and died on March 6th, 1874 at the age of 83 years old. James Willingham also lived in Pell City for many years before moving to Mobile, Alabama in 1865. The community was named after Edwin Cushing Pell who served as one of Judge Nathan Bedford Forrest's attorneys during the early days of Reconstruction following the American Civil War. Edwin Cushing Pell was born December 24th, 1814 at Salem Forge Township near Knoxville Tennessee and died on October 15th, 1888 at 84 years old. He was an attorney practicing law in Nashville Tennessee from 1850 until his death six months later. As early as 1895 there were plans for a school within the community which would eventually become known as "Pell High School". The first building constructed within the limits of present day Pell City was a one-story frame schoolhouse which seats about 60 students inside and 30 students outside. A second school building was built with additions including a gymnasium and bandstand that seating 350 students inside and 150 students outside; both buildings were dedicated on February 5th 1897 by Chancellor Allan MacNaughton Ketchum JR.. A $5,- per capita mill levy levied upon all citizens to support public education became effective January 1st 1898; thus providing funds necessary for construction of three new schools - "Pell Academy" (now known as Woodlawn Elementary), "Birmingham Junior College" (now known as Hoover Middle School) & "Alabama Polytechnic Institute" (now known as University Park Elementary). It should be noted that only two buildings remain extant from original erection - Case Senior High School & Cowan Intermediate School - both having been replaced by modern facilities over time... In 1907 Mrs Gertrude Stroud donated land adjacent to her home along 4th Street West which would become downtown Pell City’s business district; this area now includes much of today’s shopping mall area around Southeastern Avenue NW between 3rd Street NW & 4th Street NW... In 1916 Dr J W Hogg donated land east off I-10 just south of downtown Birmingham to form what is now Interstate 10 Tigers Way Boulevard; this roadway continues into today's Town Center shopping district east off I-10 just south of downtown Birmingham... In 1936 Mr E D Mays donated land west off US 231 along Green River Rd just north of today’s Little Rock Road westbound traffic will enter onto Green River Rd from US 231 turning left then continue straight ahead paralleling river past present day Little Rock Rd continuing northwest until reaching its conclusion opposite today’s intersection with US 231 where traffic will turn right onto US 231 again continuing northwest until reaching its commencement opposite today’s intersection with Green River Road where it turns northeast back into Little Rock Road
