Pell City is located on the Pascagoula River, about 20 miles (32 km) east of Huntsville and about 25 miles (40 km) north of Birmingham. The first white settlers arrived in 1825, and by 1830 there were three stores and four families living in the town. By 1840, there were twenty-one families living in Pell City. The first school was built in 1846, and by 1860 it had an enrollment of fifty-six students. In 1865, Pell City became a part of Montgomery County; but due to its remote location it only received mail service from Montgomery County until 1895. In 1901–1902, $1 million was spent on creating Pell City Park which includes a golf course, swimming pool, tennis courts, children's play area and credit union building. Today this park remains one of the most popular tourist destinations in Pell City with over 350 visitors per day. After the war ended, most industry departed until downtown Pell City regained some prominence when Boeing opened its plant there in 1957-1958. In recent years, development in downtown has again taken off with new restaurants and shops opening up along Jackson Street while smaller businesses have relocated closer to Interstate 65/US 90/. Today, Downtown Pell City remains an active commercial district with many businesses catering specifically to local residents including grocery stores (Gulfstream Grocery), pharmacies (Clinical Pharmacy), hair salons (Hair by Hannah), tattoo parlors (Tattoo N' More), First National Bank (First National Bank) and more One important aspect of Downtown PellCity's history are its murals which markings dating back over 100 years depict life within the Agricultural Society & Masonic Lodge #2 erected during 1907-1908
Pell City is located in Jefferson County, Alabama. The town was founded in 1875 by Andrew Pell and his family. Pell City became a city on May 1, 1959.
