The Pell City Gun Barrel Company was founded in 1892 by Isaac Pell and his father, E.B. Pell. The company manufactured shotguns, rifles, pistols and revolvers for the local market. In 1916, Isaac Pell died and his son-in-law, A.J. “Slim” Ellis took over the business ownership with help from his brother-in-law, Leroy Sutton Jr., who also became a part of the company family after Abram Ellis left it to him in 1923. The Pell City Gun Barrel Company continued to produce handguns until 1956 when it merged into the Birmingham Arsenal Firearms Corporation.

Pell City is a small town in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, United States. The population was 1,653 at the 2010 census. Pell City is located on U.S. Route 31 south of downtown Tuscaloosa and east of Decatur. Pell City was founded in 1892 by Danish immigrants George and Emma Larsen as a farm village on the edge of an open meadow northwest of present-day Pell City. The Larsens named their settlement "Pelican" after a pet gull that resided near their farmstead. In 1898, they added another name to the village - "City". The Larsens were particular about maintaining the name "City", so when they sold their land to James Robertson in 1915 for $10,000 ($ in2010), it was still called "City". However, because Robertson had also bought land adjacent to Pelican Creek (now known as White Lake), the name changed again to "White Lake". By 1922, all but one of Robertson's original 126 lots had been developed into homes or businesses including 25 buildings within what is now Pell City's limits; this development continued until 1975 when cityhood status was granted to Pell City by Alabama Legislature under then-President Richard Nixon through Executive Order No. 9191/1/2dated November 20, 1971 from Headquarters Office of Special Programs Divisionofthe Department ofState(OSD). In 1920s there were only 12 people living in Pelican Village and today there are over 350 people living here! There have been many changesover time withonly a handful remaining constant such as being incorporated as a Village in1920 and having our first election held here back then too!
Pell City, Alabama was founded in 1819 by General George Hardin. The town was named for General John M. Pell, who served as a colonel in the United States Army during the Mexican-American War and then as governor of Alabama.
