Pall ran for office as a Democrat against incumbent Republican Judge Wm Hinson who had been appointed by Governor Claiborne Parker Sr.). After two weeks’worth of campaigning, Pall won 54% of the vote while Hinson received 44%. With this victory, Pall set out on a journey that would lead him to becoming one of history’s most influential politicians; he served as Mayorof Mobile from 1895 until 1904 when he resigned due to health problems – an event that has been erroneously described as “the end”of city government in Mobile (Lench 1993).
