Pell City, Alabama is a small town in the Deep South that has been known for its ammunition production and distribution since the early 1800s. Ammunition production began in 1824 with the opening of a factory on what is now US-27. The town's nickname, "The Arsenal of the Confederacy," comes from this fact. Pell City was also home to one of the largest powder mills in America during World War II,manufacturing artillery shells and other munitions. Today, local residents continue to produce ammunition here at their old mill and Fillmore Arms Ammunition Plant, which has been open since 1915. In 1902, Benjamin Meagher founded Pell City Armory to sell munitions products throughout Southeast Alabama. The business grew quickly and by 1916 it had become one of the largest armories in America. In 1949, Meagher died leaving his assets to his son Benjy Meagher Jr., who continued operation of the business until it was sold to United Security Corporation in 1978. United Security Corporation operated Pell City Armory until 1986 when it was closed down due to financial difficulties. It reopened as Southern Ammunition Company in 1987 before being bought by Seagram Distillery Holdings Incorporated in 2013. Today, PellCity Armory still operates as a museum providing insight into how firearms have been used throughout history and showcasing examples of historic weaponry such as cannons and rifles from both Confederate and American conflicts alike.

Pell City, Alabama is a town in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, United States. The population was 9,611 at the 2010 census. Pell City is home to the Pell City Naval Air Station and two high schools: White Sands High School and Birmingham-Southern College. The town is also home to several businesses including the Pell Citrus Company, BP America Inc., and Legacy Tire & Auto. The post-Civil War settlement of Pell City began in 1867 when James A. Peck moved his family from Mobile to create a new life in what is now Tuscaloosa County. By 1880, there were 10 families living in Pell City with a total population of 121. In 1905, the name of the town was changed from Peekville to Pell City after Representative Julius Wickersham (D-Tuscaloosa) helped pass a bill providing for the change. When Wickersham left office in 1909, he named the newly founded city hall "Pell City Hall" in his memory. In 1961, Kemp Peebles was elected mayor and served five terms before being succeeded by his wife Gaye Peebles Kuykendall during her first term as mayor (1971–1975). Mrs. Kuykendall served until she resigned due to health concerns after becoming aware that she had leukemia; she was replaced by her husband Richard Larmon for one term (1976–1981). From 1981 until 1990s there were three mayors: Richard Larmon (1990–1994), Gaye Peeples Kuykendall (1995–1999), and Rick Armstrong (2000–2002). After serving two terms as Mayor of PellCity under different names within a short time period it reverted back to its original name - "Pell City". In 2000s local businessman Donny Thompson became interested in developing the area outside of downtown which included land bordering Hwy 31 southward on White Sands Boulevard and eastward on US 278/Alabama State Route 474 between Birmingham Southern College campus west of US 278/US 474 and First Baptist Church east of US 278/Alabama State Route 474 near current day Riverbend Mall off I-565 South west of downtown PellCity limits

Pell City is a city in the U.S. state of Alabama, on the Mobile River. The population was 23,611 at the 2010 census. Pell City is located in both Baldwin County and Jefferson County. The first permanent settler in what is now Pell City was Wm Hite, who arrived in 1819 and built a cabin on the east bank of the Mobile River. A post office called Pell City was established in 1834, and operated until it was discontinued in 1860. In 1875, John Crain erected a log courthouse on the west side of town from which he served as justice of the peace and mayor for many years. In 1907, Mayor J.B. DeVault erected a new courthouse on land donated by William Pritchard to serve as municipal seat for both Baldwin and Jefferson Counties; it replaced an old courthouse that had been destroyed by fire two years earlier. The city limits were increased to encompass all of present-day Baldwin County on March 15, 1907 when it absorbed part of neighboringJefferson County’s population (the county line then ran along current US 11 between Mobile and Pensacola). Pell City became an official city within Alabama’s borders only two weeks after its incorporation; elections were held April 1st following passage of legislation by the Alabama Legislature authorizing this action under terms that required each county to have at least one “jurisdiction seat” or “municipality seat” equal to twenty percent of its total population – with no cities having more than 10 percent representation per capita.) The first election results demonstrated just how popular Pell City had become: With over 60 percent of registered voters casting ballots, it won every mayoral race except for one (twice) while garnering less than 25 percent of all votes cast statewide! On November 3rd 1920, representatives from twelve counties met at Legion Hall near downtown for what would become known as the “National Civic Federation Convention”; this meeting marked an important turning point as Alabama began to lose support among national isolationists during World War I; by 1922 membership had reached fifty-one jurisdictions across thirteen states represented therein (Alabama being one exception), though attendance dwindled due largely to wartime obligations outside Birmingham rather than locally generated interest & enthusiasm…The convention sponsored several lectures by prominent figures including former president Grover Cleveland & future Vice President Thomas GARLAND
