The first courthouse was built in 1824 on land donated by Captain McGillivray, and it continued to be used until 1868 when an addition was built on the west side for Judge John Pemberton (1784–1861). This building is still standing and can be seen from road trips through Randolph and into PelHAM. In 1841, Daniel Webster moved his family from New Hampshire to take up farming hereabouts; he became one of the earliest settlers and died in 1865 aged 83 years. In 1870, John Pemberton erected a large frame schoolhouse which served as a community center until burned down in 1915; its replacement (built 1922) still stands today across Route 24 from the original site where it once stood. On November 5th 1907 two brothers - Harry & Norman Ladd - organized what would become known as "The Fellowship Of The Ragged Lamp" to provide housing for needy black residents living near their cotton gin property east of townline road number 4641 north thereof; this organization continues to exist to this day providing support services for low income families today!
