The Pelham community was founded in 1819 by General John Pelham and his brother-in-law George Rogers Clark. The town grew rapidly after the opening of the Mobile and Pensacola Railroad in 1836 and soon became a center for cotton commerce. In 1860, Pelham was named after General Andrew Jackson's Vice President, James K. Polk. In 1861, Confederate forces attacked Union forces stationed in Pelham while supplies were being unloaded on the dockside; the attack resulted in numerous casualties and destroyed most of the town's infrastructure. After the war ended, many people returned to Pelham but its economy collapsed as production ceased for lack of new investment. By 1970, however, pelHAM had regained some vitality thanks to a revival in manufacturing and trade opportunities following 9/11 constitutional amendments which granted voting rights to citizens over age 30 regardless of citizenship status or residence within any municipality with a population over 15 thousand residents (the amendment also extended voting rights to citizens of military installations). The Community currently has a strong sense of identity which comes from its history as well as proximity to Birmingham where there are many cultural attractions including art galleries and theaters as well as restaurants that offer excellent food options without breaking the bank. There are also several schools located here that offer excellent education through high school graduation rates into college degrees or beyond!

Pelham is a town in Jefferson County, Alabama, United States. The population was 2,890 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Birmingham-Hoover Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town name comes from the English word "pelham" meaning "a village." The first settler in Pelham was James Cushing and his family who arrived in 1814. In 1827, Reverend John Ladd purchased land in what is now Pelham and began to build a church there. A post office called Pelham was established in 1829, and remained open until it was discontinued in 1902. In 1865, General Thomas J. Montgomery decided to move his army westward towards Mobile Bay to help Confederate forces fight against Union forces under President Abraham Lincoln. His army passed through Pelham on their way north and left behind several cannons and other equipment which became the basis for future development of the town center area around Ware Shoals Road and Olde Hickory Lane. In 1903, three brothers – Hiram Fisherman, George Fisherman (later George Pritchard), and Abram Post – founded Post Canning Company which made canned goods out of cottonseed oil and watermelon rinds on their farm near present day Pelham Boulevard/John F Kennedy Boulevard intersection.. They were able to sell their products throughout most of Alabama before they went bankrupt in 1916 due to overproduction by World War I shortages of oil resources needed for munitions production; however Post's legacy continues as one of the earliest commercial tomato growers in America with plants still extant today at 8200 Jones Drive NE., outside Jacksonville, Florida
Pelham was founded by the Town of Pelham in 1824. The town grew rapidly due to its strategic location near the Alabama River and its ties to the railroad. In 1868, Pelham became a county seat and in 1907, it incorporated as a city.
