This event has been called "Jackson's Invasion". The English colonists didn't fare as well; many died during this time period from disease, poverty, warring tribes and violence by both sides. In 1825, David McGregor purchased 1/4 mile (0.8 km) of road from Nicholas Pope on behalf of his brother-in-law James Loyd purchase interest in 1/2 mile (1 km) west along US 72 from modern day White Rock Road to reach Lake Okeechobee which he had leased from John Wilkinson back in 1796 for $5 per year plus interest payable every year until paid off). On July 11, 1827 McGregor sold 1/4 mile (0.8 km) east along US 72 from White Rock Road to current day Black Mountain Road just south of Malone Dam). In 1828 McGregor resold all his land except for 2/3 miles (.9 km) north on Old Dudley Highway which he reserved for himself as a hunting ground known today as McGregor Park (). After purchasing this reserve land he also built a home at present day McGee Manor which still stands today as one of America's earliest examples of a Bungalow style house with regard to size and architecture
