Pelham is a small town in Alabama, United States. It is the seat of Marshall County and was founded by the Choctaw Indians in 1805. The first store in Pelham was built by William Hogg in 1811. In 1927, Pelham became part of the new city of Birmingham, which merged with other cities to form the Alabama City government. On July 1, 1960, Birmingham ceased to exist as an independent municipality and became a part of Montgomery, Alabama.

Pelham is a town in Escambia County, Alabama, United States. The population was 5,019 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Mobile–Tensaw–Jackson metropolitan area. Pelham is located on U.S. Route 431, about north of Mobile and south of Huntsville. The town was named for General James Wilkinson Pelham (1785-1857), an officer in the Mexican War and a colonel in the Confederate army who fought at First Battle of Bull Run and Second Battle of Bull Run against Union forces under President Abraham Lincoln's orders. In 1868, Wilkinson donated land to build a school and church in Pelham village which became known as Pelham Academy School District No. 1. The first public school opened in 1871 with 30 students and was operated by private parents until it became state-supported through legislation passed in 1927 In 1903, entrepreneur John Ladd bought a tract of land east of downtown PelHAM from JF Wilkinson for $2,000 which he used to develop what would become known as "Ladd's Landing" onAlabama's Gulf Coast extending into present day Pensacola Beach Ladd built several large hotels including one that still stands today - The Walnut Street Hotel - as well as dozens of smaller businesses along Pensacola Beach Boulevard including many seafood restaurants The Landing attracted vacationers from all over South Florida during prohibition era because it boasted bars/restaurants/ gambling halls/theaters offering alcohol without any government or industry involvement During World War II veteran soldiers barracks were constructed adjacent to Ladd's Landing for use by local military personnel barracks inmates being released after their tour ended During the Korean War several Nike Missile sites were located near Ladd's Landing providing naval gunfire support during Operation characteristics such as " distinguish Korea Bay from Wonsan Harbor ". A Naval Air Station also operated out from Ladd's Landing until its closure in 1972 . Today much evidence remains surrounding what once was one of Mobile’s most vibrant neighborhoods including an extant golf course dating back to 1922; original homes; small churches; schools; hospitals; plazas – all while active commercial enterprises continue to thrive serving residents today On July 15th 2017 Mayor Karen Ackerman announced that they will be annexing Selma into PelHAM effective September 1st 2017

Pelham was founded in 1819 by General James Wilkinson as a post office and trading center on the Mobile River. The town became a farming community and saw growth during the antebellum period as cotton plantations were developed there. The town's heyday came after Reconstruction when it experienced rapid growth due to its location and access to good transportation connections for goods and people. However, social unrestrained by economics or political considerations led to decline during the 1960s and 1970s; however, recent redevelopment has brought back some success to Pelham Pelham was first settled by Europeans in what is now Bibb County in 1819 following their exploration of that region looking for land on which they could build plantations. At first, only white men built homes here; later African American slaves also began arriving in large numbers to work on these plantations. By 1830, however, black residents had become an majority in Pelham thanks largely to free labor offered through racial discrimination against whites throughout much of Alabama at that time. In 1844, Wilkinson gave his name to the new post office which he designed himself within 12 years of its establishment – one of only three such offices around the country at that time (the others being Philadelphia and New Orleans). As Postmaster General from 1840-1846 Wilkinson played an important role in expanding mail service into rural areas across all of America with consequent reductions in postage rates for correspondents living near urban centers such as New York City or Boston. When this service was discontinued after President Polk's re-election victory over James Buchanan on November 4th 1850 means increased demand from central authorities resulted in prices quadrupling between late summer 1850/early fall 1850 until late winter 1851/early spring 1852 according as high seas forced Gadsden Bay closed off coastal shipping lanes making exports more difficult whilefreight rates also increased bringing domestic production closer to market price points thereby stimulating economic development around Mobile Bay area The impetus behind this policy change came from Secretary of State John Cranch who argued that without reliable postal servicesstruction would quickly follow along major riverfront towns like Mobile which would be unable eitherto support themselves economically or provide vital public infrastructure necessary for civic life including schools (including several academies), churches and hospitals - essential elements of early nineteenth century Alabama society .
