The Ozark Peninsula is a region in central Alabama that straddles the Arkansas River. The terrain here is rolling, hilly, and heavily forested. In recent years, however, agricultural development has begun to take hold and the area has become known for its soft gun cases. The Ozark, Alabama soft gun case history starts with the company of L.F. Gear in 1951. The company specialized in making cases for firearms that were easy to carry and store, without sacrificing protection or functionality. One of the first items L.F. Gear produced was a hard case for a shotgun that would later become known as the "Lone Gun" series cases. Ozark was a small town in Alabama before the turn of the century. It was located on the Ozark River, about 20 miles southeast of Birmingham. The town was founded by white settlers in 1819, and quickly became a stop on the wagon train route between Birmingham and St. Louis. By 1830, Ozark had a population of around 100 people. In 1836, Ozark's post office was renamed for General John McClellan, who had led American forces during the Mexican-American War. The town continued to grow throughout the 1840s and 1850s, thanks to its location on the wagon route and its access to water resources. In 1858, Ozark's first school opened doors to students from nearby Phenix City. During the late 1800s and early 1900s, Ozark experienced some growth as a center for cotton production. But it also saw some negative aspects: in 1904, an lynching took place in ozarks; in 1915-16, Klan members burned down several businesses; and in 1932-33, there were several bombings targetting local businesses. But despite these challenges, Ozark remained an active community until its final days: on July 1st of 1933, when all but one inhabitant of ozarks died as a result of an accidental gas leak at their plant
Ozark was founded by the Ozark Indians in 1821. It became a town in 1827. The town was named after Major General Andrew Jackson and it was made a county seat in 1831.
