The Ozarks were first reserved for white people only but in 1861 a group of African Americans bought 640 acres (250 hectares) east of present-day Ozark from David French. This land became known as Black Hill Township because it had been used by slaves before emancipation. blacks began working on this property as early as 1868 when W E Hogg purchased it from John Armstead anduvius Sr.. In 1902, James Ritchie opened an ice cream parlor adjacent to his farm which soon became one of OzARK’s most famous attractions with customers coming from all around rural Grady County for treats that tasted like nothing else on Earth! In 1957, Mr. Ritchie decided to close his business but left behind a legacy that still exists today; he donated more than $100,000 towards creating the James Ritchie Museum located inside the old factory complex off Old US 69 just south of town limits! Today, visitors can explore original machinery from Mr. Ritchie’s days in business plus learn about local history through exhibits related to everyday life back then such as lunch pails made out of lead shot or bottles filled with apple cider vinegar!
