Ozark began as a small farming village on the edge of what is now Birmingham County. In 1872, Methodists arrived in central Alabama to start a school and evangelical mission. Reverend John Fisk traveled around southern Alabama preaching Christianity while he awaited his assignment to lead the new school in Ozark. By 1875, Fisk had opened his first school at present-day Ozark after spending several months traveling through different parts of the state looking for a site. He found land on which to build his school on Harmon Road near present-day UAB (Upper Barberton Boulevard). The first students enrolled at Fisk's new school were children from surrounding farms who had come to learn about Jesus Christ and how to live lives of purity and self-denial like those taught at Mommy's Bible School back home. soon enough there were other schools popping up throughout central Alabama;Fisk's was only one of many that would serve northern Ala Moana (Alabamian) communities during this time period The early years at Fisk's School were very difficult for our students due to lack of resources however we did learn alot about God’s love for us…..
