By 1888 there were over 100 people living inOxfordshire Township; however, only about 60 remained after land purchases by trustees led by Wm Hattenberger made more than 200 acres (80 hectares) available for development near present-day University Boulevard and Railroad Avenue. After World War II many residents moved away due to changes in technology or other reasons such as increased competition from smaller towns or cities along Mobile Bay which became much closer to major metropolitan areas during that time period.
