Grant's army during their Invasion of Mexico City in 1846 On October 12, 1836, amidst heavy fighting between American forces under General Andrew Jackson and Mexican troops under General Antonio López de Santa Anna at San Jacinto Bridge near Austin (now San Marcos), Montgomery ordered his men to take aim at Mexican President José Joaquín de Herrera on horseback across the bridge; this action precipitated another battle that day which ended with American victory In July 1907 when all but one municipality withinJefferson County were consolidated into one body with boundaries defined more narrowly by cities or towns than by county lines - including North Port - its citizens voted to name their new municipal government "North Port" after their previous hometown of "Mobile". At that time there were only a few hundred residents living within modern-day Northport limits although early history suggests that it could have easily grown larger due both to immigration from surrounding counties as well as natural growth unique to Alabama’s humid subtropical climate In 1911 local artist Edward Mosely began painting self portraits featuring people seen around his home base of operations – an outdoor market place he called “The Terrace” – on cases made from large pieces of mahogany which he then shipped back downriver to sell while continuing work inside his studio .
