Northport is a small town in Alabama, located on the Alabama-Florida border. The population was 2,914 at the 2010 census. The town is home to Northport High School and the Northport Volunteer Fire Department. The community is also known for its cheese industry, which has made it a popular tourist destination. The first person to settle in what is now Northport was James Fenton, who built his house on the present day site of Fairfield Street in 1818. By 1829, there were 9 residents living in Northport. In 1833, Jno Fenton erected a log cabin on the current site of Fairfield Street; this became the nucleus of what would become Northport. Fenton's son John Fenton started growing rice and sweet potatoes around hereabouts from about 1840 until he sold his land to Elisha Poe in 1865; Poe then started raising pigs and chickens. In 1868, Capt Malcom Clements bought some of Poe's land and started farming corn hereabouts – this would be Clements' primary crops for many years thereafter until he abandoned them completely about 1930-1931 when chemical fertilizer became more common due to advances in technology (see below). In 1886–87 A.J. Scarlett built a sawmill at what is now Point Lookout Boulevard just south of Interstate 15/Alabama State Route 219 (then called US Highway 431). This milling operation powered much of the early commerce and transportation through these parts as well as providing jobs for many local people during that time period – it remain an important part of history even today despite no longer being operational since 1985! In 1912 Dr H Shields opened up his general store at what is now Patton Drive Extension off SR 219 near old Post Office Road; this store developed into one of most notable businesses in town with over 100 employees serving customers inside or outside with counter service available upstairs from 1905 until 1975! It closed suddenly due to health concerns after years filled with heavy traffic plus exposure from neighboring businesses! One can still see remnants from Dr Shields’ original architecture including beautiful plaster ceilings throughout his building along with nearly alloriginal window panes! It’s interesting that today only two walls remain standing out above ground level – one directly across Patton Drive Extension from where Dr Shields used to stand before literally being flattened by developers circa 1975!

Northport is a town in Jefferson County, Alabama, United States. The population was 2,859 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Birmingham-Hoover metropolitan area. Northport was founded in 1827 by General John C. Fremont and his aide, Major James S. Webb as a small trading post on the Mobile River near present-day downtown Birmingham. The post office was first established in 1828 and remained open until it closed in 1861 due to lack of business. The town grew rapidly during the early 1800s due to its location along the Mobile River and its role as a transportation hub for goods moving from Mississippi to northern Alabama and Tennessee. By 1830, Northport had become an important commercial center with several mills active production including flour, sawmills, gristmills, cheese factories and shoeshine stores. In 1830, Northport also became known for its productions of cotton ginned fabric which were exported throughout much of Europe. By 1860, however, Northport's fortunes had slowly began to decline as Wilkinson Manufacturing Company moved their operations from nearby Decatur into northcentral Alabama and Arkansas to take advantage of cheaper labor costs there while other local businesses caught up with Wilkinson's success. In 1865 then-Governor George Wallace ordered all Confederate forces in Alabama must leave by noon September 15th or face military occupation; this order led to increased conflict between white farmers who wanted their crops seized by Union troops and black soldiers who refused to leave their homes without food or ammunition; this eventually led to violence that claimed over 100 lives acrossAlabama during the summer of 1865 After being evacuated by Union troops on September 15th (the last day available for Confederate forces withinAlabama), many residents returned home but found that most farms had been confiscated and their assets arrested or looted by Union soldiers; many residents were forced out onto streets where they were met with gunfire from passing automobiles or rifle fire from Federal troopers
Northport was founded in 1875 by J.C. Northrop as a horse and buggy stop on the Alabama-Oklahoma border. The town became a busy trading post with lumber and other goods coming in from Oklahoma, and it prospered until 1907 when a fire destroyed most of the town. Northport was rebuilt but never regained its old prominence and eventually disbanded in 1911.
