Since the early 1800s, Northport, Alabama has been a center of firearm clothing and accessory manufacturing. In 1885, Francis Scott Key founded the First National Armory in Northport, which would become one of the most famous firearms manufacturers in America. The company continued to produce firearms and ammunition until it closed in 1926. During its time as a firearms manufacturer, First National Armory was known for their innovative designs andFor years they made rifles, pistols, shotguns and other weapons all with unique features that differentiated them from their competition. In 1927, Second National Armory was founded in Northport by Clyde C. Millett and his brothers-in-law Joe Gadsden and Alonzo Bogan. This company would continue to produce firearms until it closed in 1974. Second National Armory is also responsible for developing many of the iconic firearm designs such as the AR-15 rifle and shotgun. Additionally, Second National Armory was home to one of the first gunsmithing schools in America. Today there are several remnants of this history still remaining in Northport including First National Armory where you can see the original machinery used to make handguns as well as rifles and shotguns dating back to 1885;Second National Armory where you can see old guns from throughout history;and Clyde C Millett Park where you can explore various exhibits about firearm clothing manufacturing from around the world

Northport is a city located in Jefferson County, Alabama, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 497. The city was founded on September 12, 1824 by John Northrop and his wife Phebe Pickens Northrop. The first post office in Northport was established on October 25, 1830. The town charter was granted on February 11, 1835. In 1905, the population of Northport reached 1,500 people and it became an incorporated municipality on December 2nd of that year. On January 1st of 1912 the mayoralty moved from Birmingham to Northport effectiveJanuary 1st of that year. On October 24th 1914 two planes crashed into buildings in downtown Northport killing all six passengers and one crewmember on board both planes and creating a fire which lasted for several days which destroyed most of downtown core including many buildings including the old courthouse building now known as the rebuilt First National Bank Building The area around today's north end of town had been under cultivation by their ancient ancestors for at least nine hundred years prior to European contact In 1704 French traders named La Salle discovered new land south of Mobile Bay called Pensacola Bayou where they built Fort Duval with help from Spanish governor Vespucci British explorer James Cook sailed past Mobile Bay in 1795 while exploring what are now Alabama and Mississippi Territory before reaching Pensacola Bayou After France lost its Louisiana colony to Spain in 1800 during the Louisiana Purchase process American merchant vessels began sailing up Gulfstream River shipping goods between New Orleans and Acapulco through Pensacola Bayou On March 4th 1819 Captain Isaac Sloat sighted what he thought were island groups off shore from Bear Island about mile eastward beyond Mobile Point light He anchored his ship offshore to investigate but no islands were found when he lower his anchors after nightfall four nights later because high tide had receded so deep water covered them Captain Sloat then determined that he had not seen any such structures since sighting them from his ship’s masthead 20 miles due west near present day Gulfstream Bluff within 10 degrees latitude or “northwest longitude” as set forth by Mardi Gras rules at that time USS Constitution commanded by Commodore Lawrence Sterne arrived just before sunset with news that Captains Sloat & Green meant nothing but fresh water shoals only 5 miles distant & they could plainly see no land or signal fires ashore- this discovery caused great excitement among Englishmen who mistook us for Portuguese officers cruising nearby- we shouldering French claims at this time (the story apocryphal has it Vice Admiral [John E.] Stockton ordered Commodore Lawrence Sterne to bombard targets without knowing their true nature] ) HMS Guerriere also participated in this event despite not having orders to do so Commander Charles Wainwright RN wrote "I cannot resist visiting these sandbanks; I am sure there is something valuable upon them" At about 9 PM local time Sunday 22 April 1819 USS Constitution led a squadron consisting of HMS Guerriere (Capt David Dampier), HMS Guerrière II (Capt Richard Hickey), HMS Hermione (Lt Cdr John Franklin), HMS Manchester III (Lt Cdr Augustus Cole) HM Ships Prince George(Capt Nathaniel Parker Bowles) & Ramillies(Capt Fergusson). Northport, Alabama is a town located in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama. The population was 5,491 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Tuscaloosa County and home to many industrial businesses and factories. The town has been called "the engine room of the South" for its importance in the region's economy. The first white settlers arrived in what is now Northport in 1817. By 1830, the area had become an important cotton plantation center due to its location on a major route between Mobile Bay and Birmingham. In 1837, General Andrew Jackson appointed Colonel John Cray as administrator of Indian Territory following his victory over Major Robert Johnson at Battle Horseshoe Bend. With this appointment, Cray became responsible for allocating goods and money among Native American tribes within Indian Territory. In 1840, Northport became part of newly formed Tuscaloosa County when it was organized from parts of Coffeeville, Eufaula and Cullman Counties. At that time, it was one of the largest towns in Alabama with a population greater than 10,000 people. Because cotton production was so significant in early Tuscaloosa County, many mills were built here including those associated with J & W Phelps & Sons (owned by John Wesley Powell), PPG Industries (owned by Phillip Morris) and Beecham Corporation (owned by Beecham Corporation). These companies developed into some ofAlabama's leading industries during the 20th century; however they are no longer present in today's post-industrial landscape. During World War II, Northport played an important role as a military airbase serving both Allied forces fighting overseas and United States troops stationed within Arizona and California territory fighting against Japan; as well as providing housing for servicemen living on base until their return home. After the war ended, many jobs leftNorthport for other cities across Alabama due to technological advances which made manufacturing more efficient; however some remained such as Shell Oil Company which still operates a refinerycurrently located south of town near Interstate 10/Upper Don Valley Parkway exit 4A
In 1821, Northport was founded by General James Wilkinson and his men as a trading post on the Mobile River. The town slowly grew and soon had a school, store, and cotton gin. In 1831, Wilkinson sold the town to John Cook and his family. Cook renamed it Northport Landing after his landing on the Mobile River. The town continued to grow until 1835 when it was combined with nearby Muscle Shoals to form the city of Muscle Shoals.
