Beginning in 1878-1879 local blacksmiths began making ironclad cannons for Alabama forces during the American Civil War from Armours forge down White Street; these cannons are still exhibited at various tourist attractions around Mobile County today! During Reconstruction era (1868-1877), Muscle Shoals gradually regained some economic stability thanks to advances made by white businessman JB Clayton throughout Alabama due to his production of shoes for African Americans working primarily in local mills throughout that period including those located near Auburn University (now Auburn University Tigers football stadium). However there were continued difficulties experienced by both white farmers who had lost livestock during crop failures caused by infestation with Plantation Fever while black tenants who were unable to purchase necessary land or loans needed for housing development….. even after efforts were made through legislation sponsored by then Senator Howell Heflin (R-Ala.) things did not improve until after World War I when major investments came from businesses like Ford Motor Company……… however it wasn’t until 1932 that largescale transportation improvements took place when new roads were built connecting Mobile with Birmingham….the move towards heavy industry led eventually to decline of small towns acrossAlabama starting with Muscle Shoals
