Mountain Brook is a census-designated place in Perry County, Alabama, United States. The population was 8,539 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Birmingham–Tuscaloosa Metropolitan Statistical Area. In 1819, Mountain Brook was founded by John Capps and his son James Capps on a small stream that served as their farmstead for several years before becoming a community. By 1830, it had grown to include six homes and 20 residents. In 1835, James Capps sold his share in the community to John Sitton and also donated land for schools and churches in the area. In 1868, Mountain Brook became a town when it was chartered under state law by General Andrew Johnson with 7 square miles (18 km2) of land comprising its boundaries. The first mayor of Mountain Brook was Lewis Aiken. According to one account, the town's founders were motivated to create a town because they wanted to avoid being "trampled" by larger settlements near downtown Birmingham. MountainBrook experienced significant growth during World War II; its industries included aircraft manufacturing and shipbuilding. After the war ended in 1945, there were declines in these businesses but new ones started up including medical technology and broadcasting companies. In 2001, Mountainbrook saw an influx of refugees from Afghanistan after 9/11 which led to increased economic development within the community as well as social changes such as more women working outside of home than ever before. As recently as 2007 there still wasn't enough housing available so many people moved into apartment buildings or other types of housing developments throughout suburban neighborhoods outside of downtown Birmingham while still using public transportation like trains or buses

Mountain Brook is a census-designated place in Jefferson County, Alabama, United States. The population was 1,824 at the 2010 census. Mountain Brook is part of the Birmingham metropolitan area and is located just east of Interstate 65. The community was established in 1884 as a small farming village near what is now the city of Birmingham. A post office was established there in 1886, and by 1907 the town had boasted a population of about 100. In 1928, Mountain Brook became one of nine towns in Jefferson County to be consolidated with the neighboring town of Homewood into one large municipality. The amalgamation created jobs for many people in Homewood and Mountain Brook; however, it also increased crime rates in both towns. After years of decline, local officials decided to secede from Homewood and form their own municipality again in 2012. In 1951, MountainBrook's economy changed when General Motors began production at its new aluminium plant on Park Row Road adjacent to the community. At that time, Park Row Road was not paved but became very busy with traffic because GM used a mix of open-road trucks and delivery vans which required easy access to all parts of the plant for workers who transported goods between locations on Park Row Road. With more than 2 million vehicles produced at that plant during its peak period (1954-1958), mountainbrook quickly became known as "the Aluminium Capital Of The World". As manufacturing industry shifted away from aluminum towards plastics and other discretionary products such as cars and kitchen appliances during the 1970s and 1980s,[1] major automobile manufacturers ceased manufacture or moved plants elsewhere[2][3] while park row road disappeared altogether as Motor Vehicle Production Area No.(MAP) 5 within GM'sBirmingham operations[4]. As highway 95 bypassed downtown Birmingham through Pulaskitowny Township voters passed an ordinance on November 3rd ballot asking that SHR/I-65 be widened from two lanes to four so truck traffic could move freely through town center without fear of hitting pedestrians or bicyclists walking along I-65.[5][6] By 2001 most businesses closed down due to lackadaisical safety concerns raised by employees after having seen accidents involving objects being thrown out onto expressways next door by truck drivers crossing SHR/I-65 following long work days[7],[8]. However some businesses reopened thanks to support from citizens who brought attention to problems they had been unaware were happening until too late - something which has continued into today despite numerous updates made by local government officials wishing only good things for their once thriving community
