Mountain Brook is a small town in the U.S. state of Alabama, located on the Tombigbee River. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Huntsville-Decatur metropolitan area and is adjacent to Decatur County. Mountain Brook began as a settlement called "Brookside" in 1835 by white settlers who were driven out of Mobile by a military expedition led by General Andrew Jackson. The name was changed to Mountain Brook in 1849 when the community acquired land east of Mobile Street from Creek Indians. In 1871, Mountainbrook became one of five towns consolidated into Huntsville under the jurisdiction of the new city government. The first post office in Mountain Brook was opened in 1836, and remained open until it was discontinued in 1907. As with most small towns, there was no bank or grocery store until shortly after World War I when an addition to the school district provided these amenities for students and their families living near campus. The first black student at Huntsville State University graduated from Mountain Brook High School in 1944; she was Alice Robinson Folsom who later became Mrs. Lyndon Johnson's First Lady and mother of Bill Clinton and Hillary Rodham Clinton In 2008, Highland Park Elementary School (now known as Green Hills Elementary School) celebrated its centennial anniversary with a banquet honors program that included keynote speakers including Congressman John Lewis Jr., Mayor James Whitehead, Drs./Mrs Jane Austen Koretzke & Melody Youngblood Allred

Mountain Brook is a town in Montgomery County, Alabama, United States. The population was 17,854 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Montgomery County. Mountain Brook was founded by Scots-Irish immigrants in 1821 as part of the area now known as Highland Park. The name "Mountain Brook" comes from a stream running through the town. In 1838, a school for black students was built in Mountain Brook and became one of several such schools in Montgomery County. The first post office opened in Mountain Brook on December 14, 1837; it was renamed to Alpine after Mount Alpinus, an Anita mountain in Scotland near where the post office operated until 1861. In 1852, when Montgomery County became a state of Alabama, MountainBrook incorporation took place and it remained its own municipality until 1898 when it merged with nearby Decatur to form Alpine-Decatur Township. In 1902, Alpine-Decatur Township erected a Town Hall which still stands today and has been used by both sides of the political aisle since that time. The building served as home to both local government and business meetings before being moved to its current location in 2006 following extensive renovation project which included new flooring and walls throughout as well as repainting everything inside joinery including all public rooms except hallways and corridors leading off of them One notable resident from early on was Drayton Butler who started his own medical practice downtown just north of town center before moving upriver into what is now Highland Park Drayton Butler Elementary School is named for him
Mountain Brook is a town in Baldwin County, Alabama, United States. The population was 1,865 at the 2010 census. The community was founded in 1881 by James A. Mountain and his wife Anna Winchester. It received its name from a brook that ran through the town.
