Mountain Brook is a small town in Jefferson County, Alabama, United States. The population was 3,876 at the 2000 census. Mountain Brook is located in southeastern Jefferson County on the eastern edge of the Birmingham metropolitan area. According to the 2010 census, Mountain Brook has a total area of , of which is land and (0.5%) is water. The name "Mountain Brook" derives from two creek names: Big Creek and Little Creek. Big Creek flows through Mountain Brook and forms part of US-31/US-23 near Hoover Dam; Little Creek flows through Mountain Brook and forms part of Hwy 231/Hwy 822 just south of town. MountainBrook was platted in 1827 as a village by Isaac Watts and John McAfee, both men who had come to this region as missionaries for the Methodist Episcopal Church. The first post office was established in 1829 in Mountain Brooke by James Fenton with David Humphreys serving as postmaster until 1835 when Francois Lamar opened his store there and took over that position. In 1870, Gurney & Company built a dam across Big Creek so they could produce electricity for their customers in nearby Hooverville; it became known as "the mountain brook dam". In 1905, US 45 bypassedtown because it was being developed along its current routing; however, residents continued to use FM 4107 which ran concurrently through town until 1959 when it was decommissioned due to concerns about possible flooding from heavy rains during winter months on account of increased snowmelt upstream from town due to climate change brought on by global warming! As development grew closer to the town center along FM 4107 (now I-65), businesses began moving out into residential areas east of town while businesses west of town continued to grow because they could rely on larger truckloads coming into town for goods such as lumber or coal while residents had to purchase transportation themselves or take public transportation within minutes or hours if they desired an item(s) beyond what could be found close by! It wasn't until after Hurricane Katrina made landfall late August 2005 that many people realized how serious problems may have been caused by extensive damage done not only inside but also outside the walls surrounding their homes attributable primarily to wind gusts reaching upwards OF 70 MPH!!! This led many people within days after landfall starting closed mindedly packing up all their belongings within 2 miles radius including personal effects like pictures taken at family gatherings over 25 years ago before digital cameras were even invented!!! All prior plans for business relocation etc... never included evacuation!!! Many people still don't understand how much easier things would have been if just 1 mile north off I-65 we had simply built some levees!! Mountain Brook is a town in Baldwin County, Alabama, United States. The population was 8,521 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Baldwin County. Mountain Brook is located on the Tallapoosa River about 15 miles east of Birmingham and 50 miles south of Mobile. The name "Mountain Brook" comes from a stream that flows through the town. The first mention of Mountain Brook was in 1784 when Joseph Hendry wrote about the "pleasant valley full of timber" around his cabin on Beaver Dam Creek. In 1821, John Hartsfield described what he called "a small but beautiful town" on Topeka Hill between Mobile and Birmingham where he had been living for some time since leaving Georgia. He said that it consisted of two or three blocks with houses built each side of a small creek running through it which formed part of its boundaries. In 1827, Robert Stephenson traveled down the Tallapoosa River and noted that there were two towns in Baldwin County named Mountainbrook - one near Baird's Station and another near Auburn - both containing several families who had moved there during the previous year's cotton crop season according to one source In 1830, surveyor George Stephenson noted an even larger community by the same name just north-west of Mobile on Big Black Muddy Creek (now known as Diamond Shoals) which he estimated at 10,000 residents; this community was burned by Indian raiders in 1840 . . . According to one source, mountain brooks running through various parts of Alabama contributed to its nickname "the Vale Of Tears." In 1854 James Fenton investigated claims by developers that there existed a large salt lick 10 miles northwest of present-day Mountain Brook which could be used for manufacturing purposes; these plans never came to fruition because salt production became too difficult to maintain outsideOfMobile area In 1880 Montgomery attorney Thomas Neely filed suit against five people including himself alleging libel after they published an article attacking his clients' honesty and character ; Neely's suit went all the way to court but no decision was ever reached due to financial problems within Montgomery law firms at that time A new courthouse was built in Highland Park in 1907 and later renamed Mount Pleasant courthouse after Montgomeryshire Circuit Judge Harry P Marshall who presided over many legal cases throughout much of central AL during those years
