Mountain Brook is a small town in Alabama, United States. The population was 5,111 at the 2010 census. It is located in Mobile County. The name "Mountain Brook" comes from the Oconee River which flows through the town. The first permanent settler in Mountain Brook was John Chapman who arrived in 1800. In 1807, Major General Andrew Jackson's forces burned Mountain Brook and many other towns during the Battle of Mobile Bay. MountainBrook was named after Mount Morna (present-day Mt Holly), an 8,000-foot peak located near present-day Mobile and Montgomery Counties in central Alabama. mountainbrook once extended as far east as Wetumpka and as far west as Athens, Ala., but it has been shrunken to its current boundaries due to development within the last few decades. According to legend, Native Americans were warned by an old woman about white settlers coming to their land: "If you build your house on this hill," she said, "the white men will burn it down." So early settlers built only log homes on high ground around present-day Mountain Brook Cemetery until they realized there would be no danger from burning them down; instead they erected canopies over their lives to protect themselves against Indian raiders or prospectors looking for new land for sale. In fact, one early settler reported that he had not seen a living Indian in his entire area since 1798! In 1813–14 Major General James Ketchum's brigade fought under Jackson at Talladega National Battlefield while skirmishing with Indians nearby; according to some accounts Ketchum killed more than twenty of these attackers before withdrew back towards Mobile Bay under cover of night with his force empty stomach! mountainbrook fared no better when Ketchum encountered Cherokee Chief Etowah's forces again less than two weeks later at First Winchester Bridge Junction where he lost 20 men killed and 50 wounded before withdrawing again undetected! Some historians have claimed that Etowah may have been able to outmaneuver Jackson because he himself was running low on ammunition after charging into battle unprovoked! It wasn't until 1861 when Union troops occupied Mountain Brook that things changed for the local populace – soon afterwards tobacco farming became a major industry thanks largely to slave labor brought over by American soldiers fighting for secessionists during the American Civil War. Today much of what used to make up mountainbrook is gone – replaced by subdivisions and malls – but part of downtown still retains its historic buildings including several churches dating back to 19th century America such as Methodist Episcopal Church (founded 1812) and Baptist Tabernacle (established 1825). During World War II many businesses closed due wartime rationing; however most reopened shortly afterwards once shortages ended across all industries nationally although some stores continued closure into the 1970s following passage of landmark legislation known as The Fair Labor Standards Act Amendments of 1938 which increased regulation concerning work hours and wages within private industry among other things. After World War II most residents returned home except for a handful who remained behind working on farms or fishing boats outside town limits until 1957 when restrictions were lifted allowing nonresidential growth within town limits despite protests from residents concerned about potential loss of character village atmosphere unique among rural communities throughout south Alabama A new library building was completed in 1984 adjacent parkland formerly owned by Southern Baptist Church now home to community center/library which serves nearly 350 families residing inside & outside property lines

Mountain Brook is a small town in Cullman County, Alabama, United States. The population was 1,793 at the 2010 census. Mountain Brook is part of the Birmingham–Tuscaloosa Metropolitan Statistical Area. Mountain Brook was first settled in 1819 by a group of Scots-Irish immigrants from County Clare who named their community "Brookgreen." The name came from a mountain located near the town and its original location on the Cahaba River. In 1845, two brothers named John and James McKay bought land around what is now Mountain Brook village and started to build homes. By 1865, they had built over 100 homes and were making money farming cotton and other crops. They donated all of their furniture, tools, equipment, livestock, shares in their business to help start a school for African Americans in Mountain Brook Village. The McKay Brothers School opened on November 11th 1865 as the first black high school in America. It served students from Mountain Brook village as well as parts of Hooverville (now known as Tuskegee), which became separate from Mountainbrook after white landowners expelled most blacks from rural areas during Reconstruction following the Civil War. The school closed in 1957 once more due to budget cuts but was reopened by local activists in 2009 as Montgomery Community College's first black college campus outside of Alabama before being renamed Appalachian Regional University later that year. In 1890s when railroads arrived through central Alabama providing transportation opportunities for people living within walking distance of factories or towns such as Birmingham or Mobile they began transporting goods southward through downtown Birmingham until it reached MLK Boulevard just east of Highland Park Avenue whereupon traffic slowed down so passengers could get off at one end and walk back into downtownBirmingham called "the middle ground". At this time there were onlytwo places for pedestrians to cross MLK Boulevard: between Highland Park Avenue & Auburn Hills Avenue & between Enterprise Road & I-565 northbound exit ramp on I-565) giving rise towhat is nowknownas "Broadwalk" acrossfrom MLK Boulevard
