The Battle of Gadsden Bridge which led to Creek Nation's secession from Mexico ended with American control over Mobile Bay following that event For many years prior to 1850s when railroads arrived into America, wagon traffic between plantations south ofMobile Bay via wagons filled with crops did not exist or was very slow due to lack of transportation infrastructure at that time; one must travel overland either along Indian trails or go downriver where boats could take you upriver once finished with your cargo/ passengers etc... In 1850 tiredness from long journey caused numerous people travelling downriver or via Indian trails lose their way en route home so Governor John Bell recommended building a canal connecting Mobile Bay with nearby Tennessee River thus creating what became known as "Alabama Canals" era transportation corridor which made possible rapid economic growth throughout all parts of America including southeastern Tennessee
