Millbrook is located in Mceo County, Alabama, United States. The population was 4,898 at the 2000 census. Millbrook is a small community located on the Millbrook-Huntsville Highway just east of Huntsville. The first settler in what is now Millbrook was John Denton in 1827. He and his family claimed land along the Mobile River and built a log cabin which they named "Denton's Cabin" after him. From this cabin, Denton developed a small farm with four or five hundred acres (1 hectare) of land that he leased to others for agriculture. In 1836, Isaac Newton settled in Millbrook and began to cultivate some 640 acres (2 hectares). This new settler had bought some 200 acres (8 hectares) of land from John Denton and planned to build a house thereon but due to the low quality of soil he needed to clear it himself before starting cultivation. Newton also started up a blacksmith shop and store near where he lived. In 1850, millwright James Witherspoon arrived in Millbrook from Cullman County,Alabama with his family and set up operations on the west side of town near what is now Interstate 10 headquarters building. By 1860, Witherspoon had expanded his operation into an large flour mill employing about 60 men out of a total population of 1,500 people living in Mill Brook then as well as parts of Huntsville including Decatur Ferry Landing on the Mobile River which opened in 1861 attracted many immigrants during that period seeking work opportunities on railways across America because transportation was improving rapidly then KROMESTOWN TOWNSHIP - MILLBROOK AVERAGE POPULATION IN 1900: 3,433

Millbrook was founded in 1833 by the Millbrook Coal and Coke Company. The company operated a coal mine, mill, and blacksmith shop in the town until it merged with the Birmingham Coal and Coke Company in 1912. In 1924, Millbrook was renamed Millbrook Alabama after its incorporation into the state of Alabama.
