Millbrook is a small town in Jefferson County, Alabama, United States. The population was 1,089 as of the 2010 census. Millbrook is known for its landmark mill and the annual Millbrook Festival. It also has a shopping mall and several restaurants. The first permanent settler in Millbrook was James Witherspoon in 1827. John Bledsoe bought land near the mill in 1832 and began operating it. In 1835, Samuel Folsom built a sawmill on the river at present-day Mill Brook Drive. A post office called Millbrook was established in 1836, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1907. The first gristmill on the site became operational in 1840. The original water tower stood until 1959 when it was demolished to make way for the current one next door. The first cotton gin on the property began operations in 1843 by Jnoah Dixon and continued to be used until 1865 when it burned down. In 1886, Julius Hodge opened what would become America's second largest grocery store downtown (the first being Sam's Club). In 1906, Pemberton Drugs opened its doors at 401 Main Street (now home to First Baptist Church). By 1910, there were three schools: two public schools and one private school; two churches - First Baptist Church with 330 students and Magnolia Methodist Episcopal Zion Union with 350 students; four businesses: grain elevator, meatpacking company (later part of Armour Meat Packers), US Mail Service office building at 5th Street & Main Avenue (now Home Depot), Pemberton Drugs; all of which are still standing today except for US Mail service building which went up for sale in 2008 and remains unoccupiedtoday since being purchased by FedEx Office Inc.. In 1942-1945 during World War II, an air raid destroyed much of downtown including both mills although they managed to survive due to their underground storage facilities which remain active today as part of Verizon Business Park property line work area according to aerial photos taken from above between 2003-2005 while under construction near intersection of Stadium Road/5th Street & Main Avenue

Millbrook is a town in Chambers County, Alabama, United States. The population was 1,665 at the 2010 census. Millbrook was platted in 1871 and named for John B. Millwright, a local lawyer and businessman. The town was incorporated on July 1, 1951. The first settlers of what would become Millbrook were farmers who grew corn and other crops near their homes. By the early 20th century, milling had taken over as the town's principal economic activity; by 1930, there were more than 100 businesses in the community. In 1939, milling operations were discontinued and the town became a small farming community again. Since then, however, Millbrook has undergone several changes that have helped it become one of the most vibrant small towns in central Alabama: It has seen an increase in its population thanks to waves of migration from rural areas to work in large metropolitan centers such as Birmingham; it has enjoyed steady economic growth through manufacturing and service sector businesses; and it has been spared major social or physical unrest that has struck other larger communities throughout Alabama during recent years. Today's Millbrook is home to a variety of businesses including two high schools (Alabaster Schools District #2) as well as many smaller institutions like churches and daycare facilities within walking distance of each other - making it easy for residents to get involved with their local community affairs without having to leave their homes basecamp-style!
