Despite its problems during Reconstruction period (such as high crime rates and low economic opportunities), Jacksonville has recovered somewhat since it seceded from America in 1965. Today it boasts a vibrant cultural scene and active nightlife industry; both things that have helped keep it an attractive place for tourists throughout much of recent history. Additionally, Jacksonville is home to some important historical sites such as Fort Constitution National Monument andJacksonville Arsenal National Military Park; both are important because they help tell local history in ways that are accessible to everyone not just historians or experts on either topic.
