On December 1st 1828 Lieutenant Colonel George Washington Marmaduke opened the first store in Jacksonville which was called The Pier House

Englishman George Rogers Clark discovered Mobile Bay on November 3rd 1799 while exploring for British forces during America's War for Independence against Spain In 1802 Governor Andrew Jackson signed an act authorizing construction of a steamboat line between New Orleans and Pensacola which would carry goods across Mobile Bay for sale inland In 1805 Captain John Foushee built USS Constitution at Choctaw Point (now Fort Meade) on San Jacinto River which became one of only five ships ever commissioned within United States navy Captain Foushee also served as Commodore of Navy's West Indies Squadron during this period In 1810 USS Constitution was decommissioned after serving 6 months as flagship off Cape Canaveral California convoying HMS Beagle under Commander Robert Falconer After that she served as tender ship USSB Blakely until her loss during CSS Florida in 1813 while escorting gunboats Chesapeake & Georgia off Cape Lookout Inauguration Day Emancipation Proclamation By President James K Polk On July 8th 1861 USS Constitution participated in bombardment and capture of Yorktown
