The Huntsville Gun Club was formed in 1901. The club met at the Masonic Lodge No. 2 on Main Street, and soon had a good number of members. In 1907, the club erected a building on what is now Elm Street. It was used as a clubhouse until 1912 when it was purchased by the City of Huntsville and became known as Municipal Building No. 1. The building housed city offices until 1951 when it was replaced by the present day City Hall Annex on Elm Street.
