Hueytown is a small town in Marshall County, Alabama, United States. The population was 1,912 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Mobile–Tensaw metropolitan area. Hueytown has been called "The Village" by its residents and "The Hub" by outsiders because it is the location of most of the community's social and economic activity. The first white person to settle in Hueytown was James Witherspoon in 1824. The first store opened in 1827 and the first school was built in 1830. In 1836, John Chilton purchased land near present-day Hueytown from James Witherspoon and began to develop it into a town. He named his new town after General Andrew Jackson, who had won the Battle of New Orleans that year and become president of the United States. In 1850, Auld Jethro (Jim) Hardin built a log cabin on what is now current US-129 north of downtown Hueytown for his family business, Hardin & Company grocery store/cider company etc., which remain today as one of America's pioneering retail stores catering to African Americans until this day.
