Hueytown is a small town located in Sumter County, Alabama, United States. The population was 1,711 at the 2010 census. It is the largest community in Sumter County by population. Hueytown is home to Huey High School and the Hueytown Fire Department. The area that now includes Hueytown was first settled by Germans in 1819. In 1832, Englishman James Cotes bought land from the Germans and named it "Huey." In 1853, John A. Macon donated land to the town for school purposes. By 1860, all of Sumter County had been organized into townships (except for Hueytown), and Huey Township was formed out of part of Sumter County. In 1865, Confederate General Pee Dee Beauregard established his headquarters in nearby Jonesboro whilemobile army under General Robert Easley fought against Union forces near Selma on Mobile Bayouirting Hernando Cisneros's Mexican Battalion led by Captain José Valdez). After Union troops destroyed Beauregard's HQ at Fort Pillow on November 12th 1865 (the Battle of Fort Pillow), Beauregard moved his headquarters to Selma and ordered all Confederate troops within 8 miles of that city to evacuation via riverboat or steamboats due to Union military pressure; only 3% reached their destination due to bad weather conditions along the way On December 5th 1865, President Andrew Johnson issued an executive order calling for all citizens of Alabama who could bear arms to assemble at Bryant–Denny Road east of Montgomery for muster on Christmas Day; this order became known as "The Christmas Rally". Over 166 thousand men from throughout Alabama assembled around Bryant-Denny Road during The Christmas Rally including many young men from rural areas who had never seen combat before or participated in any kind of parade or celebration. Hueytown, Alabama is a city in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, United States. The population was 5,844 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Tuscaloosa County and one of its two cities. Hueytown was founded by General James Longstreet and his army during the American Civil War on December 12, 1864. The first post office in Hueytown was established on February 14, 1865. The name "Hueytown" was chosen because General James Longstreet's home town in Georgia had been called "Hooverville." In 1896, the US$2 million bond issue to finance construction of University Park Drive projected that Hueytown would become one of America's leading academic communities. The city's namesake general also helped contribute $1 million to that cause. In 1955–1956 Union Carbide Corporation constructed a gas-fired power plant on Battle Mountain which became an important factor in downtown redevelopment and new housing development near the plant; this brought much needed job growth to Hueytown and other industrial areas throughout central Tuscaloosa County. There have been many expansions and renovations toHUD properties located within or adjacent to HUD Headquarters including: - improvements made to include more space for employees' use as well as better quality living standards for HUD tenants; - addition of a fitness center and outdoor pool area; - rehabilitation/renovation projects completed on aging buildings inside or adjacent to HUD Headquarters such as adding new roofs/windows/entrances/exterior walls while preserving historic details;
Hueytown is located in Jefferson County, Alabama and was founded by the Hueys in 1852. The town was named for General Andrew Jackson, who had helped to defeat the Seminole Indians. It quickly became a center of slave trade and cotton production. In 1881, Hueytown was renamed for John F. Kennedy, who had been elected president that year.
