Hueytown is a small town in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, United States. The population was 2,878 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Birmingham metropolitan area. Hueytown is one of the oldest towns in Alabama and was founded by Scots-Irish immigrants in 1819. The name "Hueytown" comes from French meaning "honeycomb." The first post office in Hueytown was established on April 1, 1820. The community grew quickly due to its location on the C&O Railroad and its easy access to education and jobs. By 1830, there were over 100 people living in Hueytown. In 1834, a school was built and named after General Andrew Jackson (the first U.S. president). In 1850, a large cotton gin was built in Hueytown and became one of the largest mills in Tuscaloosa County. In 1865, Confederate General Robert Ewell decided to move his army from Selma to Montgomery so he could attack Union forces there instead of retreating back to Chattanooga as planned. He ordered his troops into battle near Muscle Shoals without orders from President Abraham Lincoln. This led to an entire night of fighting that left more than 50 dead or wounded including Ewell himself

In 1821, when the first white person set foot in what is now Hueytown, Alabama, he named it "Hueytown". The town was founded by James Long and other pioneers who came to the area in search of land to grow cotton. In 1827, after years of effort by the town's founders and citizens, a post office was established at Hueytown. In 1830, the name of the town was changed from "Hueytown" to "Fultown". The Fultown community quickly became known for its production of corn bread which was served throughout most of Alabama. One early resident described Fultown as a "fine thriving city" with many buildings that are still standing today. The town also boasted a large jail and several churches. It was during this time that Fultown began its decline and eventually fell apart. By 1873, only a few remaining residents remained in Fultown while much of the surrounding country had been acquired by Georgia interests led by Colonel John Troup. After years of struggles against Georgia encroachment into their land, some local farmers decided to move away from Fultown altogether and formed the nearby communities of Oxford and Jasperville. These new towns were founded on better soil but ultimately failed due to lack of population or economic opportunity. Today, onlyOxford remains within sight of Hueytown while Jasperville is no longer inhabited
