It was renamed to "Marshall" on May 12, 1896 after Marshall County became a part of Alabama Territory in 1821. The first store opened in Hueytown on December 5, 1895 by Wm. Huggins and his son-in-law Dillard Huggins with $1 per week in proceeds from selling goods from their farm land that they had acquired since their establishment two years earlier. The store continued to be open until it closed its doors on November 17, 1922 due to economic conditions caused by World War I and other factors including livestock rustling and Prohibition which began to take hold inAlabama during that time frame
