Hueytown is a small town in Hale County, Alabama, United States. The population was 1,691 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Hale County. The name "Hueytown" comes from Choctaw Indian Chief Huey and his son John "Courage" Houlihan's nickname for their home village on the Chattahoochee River: simply " Yards". The first white settler in Hueytown was David Denton in 1835. He ranched and built a log cabin near present-day Highway 8 about two miles south of downtown Hueytown. A post office called Denton was established in 1837, and remained open until it closed in 1907. In 1839, James Fenton drove a team of horses to the Chattahoochee River to purchase land from the Choctaws for $200. He set out homesteads on what are now parts of streets and buildings in downtown Hueytown today. By 1840, there were 15 residents living in Hueytown and 5 businesses had been organized as schools/counselors ( Methodist Episcopal Church; First Baptist Church; Second Presbyterian Church; Agricultural School). On November 5, 1861, Confederate General Robert Ewell arrived at Mobile Bay with 21 thousand men to invade America's 6th Corps under Major General Ulysses S Grant without orders from above. General George Custer ordered all cavalry west of Missouri along Federal lines while he advanced his army into Virginia on October 27th to join up with General Grant advancing against Lee’s army north of Richmond – this event would later be known as “The Battle at Chancellorsville” which resulted in over 50 thousand casualties including Ulysses S Grant himself losing an eye due tobleeding from a horse wound sustained during that battle five days earlier when he led Union troops against Confederate forces under Jubal Early at Grove Hill outside Petersburg

In 1850, the Folsoms moved to Huntsville, Alabama and began a cotton plantation. The family continued to live in Hueytown until their death in 1925. In 1830, Captain John Hogg founded an agricultural company called Hogg & Sons which became one of the most successful cotton growers inAlabama. After Captain Hogg's death, his son John Hogg III took over the business and expanded it into other industries including poultry and shipbuilding.
