Hueytown is a small town in the Huntsville metropolitan area in Alabama. The population was 1,362 at the 2010 census. It is located on U.S. Route 431, about 9 miles northwest of downtown Huntsville and 7 miles east of Birmingham. Hueytown has a post office and a public school system with 10 schools, as well as two churches and an outdoor basketball court. The first people to live in Hueytown were farmers who came from Georgia in the early 1800s. They raised cotton and other crops, but also hunted and gathered food for their families. In 1881, Jno Henshaw built his home on what is now East Main Street in what was then primarily a farm community known as "Junction." A year later he married Anna Hawkins, daughter of James Hawkins Sr., one of the original settlers in this area. Anna's family had been living here since 1819 when they arrived from Virginia with their children John (1811-1868), James (1787-1866), Mary (1792-1865), Elizabeth (1800- 1860) and Jesse (1795-1873). In 1892 when John Henshaw died, his wife Anna provided enough money to move her husband's ashes from Junction to Hueytown so that they could rest among his ancestors there permanently. This event made possible the founding of the Jno Henshaw Memorial Cemetery which still stands today near Old Hickory Boulevard and US 431 just north of town limits

After the war, many residents left to join other American communities elsewhere in what is now metropolitan Birmingham. Today, Hueytown remains a small rural town with a population of around 1,200 people and is home to several schools including North Rural High School and Bellefontaine Elementary School
