Homewood is a city in Tuscaloosa County, Alabama, United States. The population was 12,231 at the 2010 census. The town is part of the Birmingham–Hoover metropolitan area. It is known for its large shopping center and its large white housing developments called "The Villages". In 1817, General James Wilkinson decided to make Homewood his new home after losing his plantation in Mobile Bayou. Wilkinson built a cotton plantation on what is now Main Street in Homewood. He named it "Wilkinson's Plantation". In 1824, Wilkinson's son-in-law J.B. Green bought the property from Wilkinson and renamed it "Green's Plantation". Green developed it into a large cotton plantations that yielded many crops such as tobacco, rice and soybeans. In 1886, Hokeem Auld purchased the property from Green and renamed it "Auld's Plantation". He continued to develop it until he sold it to Alexander Jackson Mackey in 1920 for $1 million dollars (the largest cash deal ever made in Mobile County). Mackey used Homewood as his summer home from 1920 until his death in 1978. After Mackey's death, the land passed through several hands before becoming part of the federal government's National Agricultural Research Foundation (NARF) estate in 1980 (). NARF leased out portions of the estate to various businesses including Dow Chemical Company who manufactured pesticides there during World War II; Sonny Liston Enterprises who used an air conditioning unit produced by General Motors on their mansion during that time;[1] and most recently Beecham Peanuts which still uses some farmland near Byrom Park off McConnell Drive today while their main plant located nearby at 4500 block of Corporate Boulevard produces Nutella bars & other products

Homewood is a small town in central Alabama, United States. The population was 5,041 at the 2000 census. It is the county seat of Marshall County. The first settler in Homewood was John Willoughby, who arrived in 1784. The first post office was established here in 1824, and the town became a popular stop on stagecoach routes between Mobile and Decatur. After the Civil War, many settlers came to Homewood to start new lives after the fighting ended. Many of these people were farmers who had migrated from Kentucky and Tennessee. In 1892, an act of Congress designated Marshall County as its own county seat; however, this did not happen until 1907 when a second act changed that again making Marshall County the seat for all but one of Alabama's thirty-six counties. At that time there were only seven towns in Marshall County--Avery, Baldwinville, Birmingham, Bessemer City, Conyers Junction (now University Park), Dothan (now Cullman), Enterprise (now Enterprise Airport), and Homewood; these villages amalgamated into one municipality in 1909 under then-Mayor James Hargrave’s leadership with help from business owners and citizens alike." In 1916 due to World War I efforts by General John Joster Field to increase cotton production Allatoona Valley mustered 100 men for two weeks service at Camp Butler which served as their home during their stay here before returning home on July 4th . This event helped Jefferson Barracks become known as "Homewood", it being convenient for soldiers seeking food and shelter close by while stationed here during the war years
