Homewood is a city in and the county seat of Marshall County, Alabama, United States. The population was 12,527 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Mobile–Troy–Bayou City metropolitan area. The first gun case in Homewood was registered on December 8, 1868. This gun case belonged to Mollie Denton and her husband John Denton. The Denton family had two guns: one for protection and one for target shooting. In 1905, J.D., who owned a grocery store in town, started selling handguns to residents of Homewood and Marshall County as part of his business venture called "The Gun Store". By 1912, J.D.'s handgun store had become one of the largest handgun dealers in Mobile County In 1935, homesteaders Wanda Mae Slaughter and her husband Slim Slaughter set up camp near what is now downtown Homewood on land that would later be annexed by the city limits. They were among the first settlers in Marshall County In 1951, all handgun sales within boundaries of the city were banned due to fears that handguns could be used to commit crimes in unincorporated areas outside of city limits A new ordinance passed by the City Council on October 1st 1955 exempted handguns from this ban after being publically debated for over 2 months This ordinance allowed citizens inside the city limits with their own firearms to purchase handguns that had been lawfully possessed by individuals outside ofcity limits

Homewood is a small town in Macon County, Alabama, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Mobile–Troy–Biloxi Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first recorded mention of Homewood was in 1814 when General James Wilkinson named it after his father-in-law and fellow officer of the British Army, John Homewood. In 1825, John Sims built a log cabin on what is now U.S. Route 19 near modern day Homewood to serve as a stop on stagecoach routes between Mobile and Troy. By 1830, there were six white households and twelve black households in the area compose of which 9% were slaveowners while 81% were free people of color. In 1830s and 1840s, many slaves lived within walking distance of present day Homewood due to its strategic location along cotton plantations around Mobile Bay that supplied labor for local farms and mills throughout the Yazoo Territory (now Mississippi). This proximity also allowed for some cultural exchange among enslaved Africans and their owners during this time period; for example, one group of African Americans living near present day Limestoneville learned how to read and write from their masters in order to negotiate better wages and working conditions from their overseers during the early 1800s. During Reconstruction following America's Civil War (1861-1865), many freedmen moved intoMobile County looking for new homes after being federalized into armies or militia units called " Freedmen's Bureau" units operating under military supervision from 1865 until 1868 when they reverted back to civilian control under President Abraham Lincoln's Emancipation Proclamation. Many whites who had been displaced by Reconstruction relocated to Mobile County as well seeking opportunity and revenge against those they felt had wrongfully acquired Confederate citizenship or expelled them from home without cause or compensation - an all too common occurrence during these times period across southern states struggling through Reconstruction efforts following state seceding from Union governments caused by economic exploitation/aide & abetment by northern elites! The Community School District #1was chartered on January 20th 1906 with instruction starting September 6th that same year located at 411 Old Wayne Road which served grades K thru 12th grade with an addition of high school education offered beginning fall semester 1907 located adjacent property off US HWY 69 south just east of current day McKinney Street campus
Homewood was founded in 1871 by the Stephens brothers, who named it for their home town of Huntsville. The community grew quickly, and by 1913 there were over 1,500 residents. Homewood became a city in 1934, when it annexed the neighboring town of Guntersville.
