The history of optical accessories in Hartselle, Alabama dates back to the early 1900s. At that time, many people in the town were interested in improving their eyesight and using new technology to do so. One of the first companies to provide optical equipment and services in Hartselle was The Optical Shop. This business was started by Mr. Harry Ahern and his wife, Mrs. Anna J. Hetherington, in 1903. The Ahern's operated this business until 1971 when they sold it to George Ladd who continued to operate it until he passed away in 1984. George Ladd started out as a photoengraver and lithographer in Huntsville, Alabama and moved to Birmingham, Alabama after finding success there as a lithographer for various businesses including The Daily News Company and the American Express Company. In 1941 he opened his own lithography shop with his brother-in-law, Lloyd Anderson (1910-2006). Eventually George Ladd became one of the largest manufacturers of optical supplies in the country and is considered one of Hartselle's most lasting residents. In 1951 Mr. Harry Ahern donated an old camera lens from his collection to The Optical Shop for use as part of our equipmentowment program at Southern Methodist University (SMU). Since then we have been able to offer students access to our optics inventory on an open-house basis each year during April Fool's Day! In 1972 SMU renovated its library which included a Gallery on the first floor which served as our showroom/gallery space for exhibiting our latest products during academic term hours! We continue today as one of only a few local optical stores left where students can purchase optics assemblies or components without having to go outsideHartselle! Today we continue providing high quality optic products at competitive prices while still honoring Mr. Harry Ahern's donation by providing access for students each year on April 1st!

The Hartselle area was first settled in 1819 by the Hartselle family. The original homes in the town were built near the water and were used as a fishing and hunting ground. In 1849, the town was renamed for General John C. Fremont, who had won an important battle at Yalobusha Creek. After his death in 1850, General Fremont's wife, Julia Pemberton Fremont, donated land to build a school in the town. The school opened in 1853 and continued to serveHartselle until it closed in 1959. A current high school is located in the town. In 1915, General Electric purchased a small piece of land north of Hartselle from J.H. Lewis & Son Incorporated for $2,000. The company built a small factory on the site which they called GE-Hartselle (later Hoffman). This factory manufactured radios and other electrical products until 1978 when it was sold to Magnolia Radio Corporation who operated it until 1993 when it was auctioned off and bought by AT&T who turned it into their Hartselle headquarters building known as Talbot Towers today
Hartselle, Alabama is a town in Talladega County, Alabama, United States. The population was 6,385 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Talladega County and one of its three cities. The Hartselle post office was established in 1892 and discontinued in 1907. The first settler in what is now Hartselle was John C. White Sr., who arrived on horseback from Illinois on December 2, 1892. The name "Hartselle" originated with John Hartsfield (1820-91), an American politician who served as Governor of Alabama from 1893 to 1897 and as United States Senator from Alabama from 1897 to 1901. Hartselle is also the home of the Senior Bowl which annually selects the best high school players for playing in the annual college football bowl game played at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Hartselle has a total area of , all land.[1] It includes most of present-day Talladega County; parts of Paint Rock Township and Sheffield Township were included within Birmingham until 1889 when they were separately incorporated into Talladega County; and portions of Hale Township were part of Winston County before it was purchased by Talladega County on November 1, 1881.[2] The Townships are: Baird, Bassett, Chatman, Dalevillea Heights/Hale Heights/Fenton Hills/Pinecrest Hills/Baird Creek Valley (except Hale Heights), Faulkner Park,[3][4] Harrisonburg,[5][6], Hitchiti Springs Village,[7][8] Jenkins Chapel Community[9][10], La Grange Village[11], Madison Heights[12], Oakhurst[13], Pinson Hill Villages (township except Oakhurst)[14],[15][16]), Pinecrest Hills/Hale Heights (township except Hale Heights), Stafford Springs Village,[17][18], Threaten Woods community[19],[20](?), Walton Springs Village[21](?), Williamson Lakeshore community(?) 24 miles long and 8 wide east-west
An Optical EquipmentHistory is an encyclopedia of optical equipment and accessory manufacturers. It began as a photocopier service at the University of California, Berkeley in 1969. The first edition had 14 entries. In 1984, the journal "Optics Letters" published an article on the history of lightroscopy which included photographs and illustrations from original sources. This led to the creation of an online database, Optics Online (http://www.opticalonline.org). In 1998, " IEEE Spectrum" published an article on Portable Laser Ophthalmologists' Accessories-The History and Future (PLOA) by Jerald Acheson and Edward Cray Jr.. PLOA was designed to document advances in portable medical lasers that were then making their way into clinics around the world. The database has since grown to more than 1 million records with over 150,000 articles and images covering all aspects of portable laser technology
The first optical accessories were created by a man named Nicholas-Jacques Conte in 1795. He designed and built the world's first pair of spectacles, which he called the "Chevalier de La Salle."
Hartselle was a small town in Alabama during the early 1800s. The community was founded in 1807 by Major Isaiah Hartselle and his wife, Susannah. The Hartselles were the first white settler in what is now known as Montgomery County, Alabama. The town originally consisted of a few hundred residents. By 1830, however, it had grown to over 1,000 people. The population continued to grow rapidly until the late 1800s when immigration began to decrease due to racial discrimination. However, this didn't stop Hartselle from becoming one of the most important communities in Montgomery County. The Hartsels played an important role in the early history of Montgomery County and are considered pioneers in that area. They also left behind a lasting legacy on their hometown. In addition to their home at 205 E First Street, they also donated land for what is now called Montgomeryshire Park. This park provides a public education playground and walking path around their former estate.
