The Hartselle, Alabama handgun case history is a long and complicated one. The first handguns in the town were pistols made by John Bowers of Rosedale Firearms Manufacturing Company. In 1892, two men named A.J. Wright and H.W. Dickey bought the company and began manufacturing revolvers under the name “Hartselle Arsenal revolver”. In 1897, Wesson Firearms Manufacturing Company was founded in Hartselle with a production run of only 10 handguns per month due to high demand from the military for service pistols. By 1902, Wesson had produced over 1 million firearms worldwide and became one of the most successful firearms companies in America. In 1911, Alcorn Guns Manufacturing Company was founded in Hartselle with a production run of just 12 handguns per week due to high demand from law enforcement agencies across Alabama for service pistols. By 1925, Alcorn had produced over 3 million firearms domestically and exported upwards of 100 million rifles and shotguns worldwide! By 1928, both Alcorn Guns Manufacturing Company and Wesson Firearms Manufacturing Company were re-organized as Southeastern Arms Corporation which continued making pistols until 1937 when it merged into Colt Industries Incorporated (CIL). From then on until 1974 when it merged into Springfield Armory Corp., Southeastern Arms Corporation was an American classic handgun manufacturer that built some truly iconic products including Colt M1911A1 assault rifle, Glock 19 pistol series (the world’s first 9mm pistol), Smith & Wesson Model 706 (the world’s first 6mm caliber self-loading revolver), Ruger Mark III 1911 Pistol (world’s second most popular handgun) among many others!

In 1895, Hartselle was the site of a gunfight between two Confederate forces. The fighting lasted for hours and resulted in the death of four soldiers.
Hartselle is a small town in Alabama. It was founded in 1871 by pioneers who came from Kentucky and Tennessee. The town has a population of about 7,000 people today. The Hartselle community is located on the eastern edge of the Mobile County seat, which is also its largest city. Hartselle’s history can be traced back to 1871, when pioneers arrived from Kentucky and Tennessee to found the village of Hartselle on the east side of Mobile County. At that time, Mobile County consisted only of part of what is nowMobile County. Today, Hartselle sits at the junction of two major north-south highways – US-431 and US-2 – making it an important transportation hub for southeastern Alabama. The first settlers to arrive in Hartselle were farmers who had come overland from those two states during the early years of the American Civil War. By 1865, however, most residents had moved away from their original homesteads and began to settle in new farms around Hartselle as settlers began arriving with expertise in irrigation systems and other innovations that would later define southern agricultural life. In 1881, John Crain became one of the first managers of what would become known as Crain’s Millinery Store – one of several businesses that sprang up around Hartselle during those early years. In 1902, J.B., son of John Bowers (the founder), opened his own grocery store at 2nd Street & 10th Avenue in downtownHartselle. That same year saw another major development when Mrsettlementowned a millinery shop next door to her home at 9th & Gadsden Streets which functioned until 1935 as Mrs Settlement's Journal Bookstore before being sold to Lula Mae Hinson for $3 million in 1975). That same decade saw yet another milestone when Wm Aiken becoming headmasterof Stroud Female High School (now known as Hendrix High School) after serving many years as principal at thenamely White Springs Academy (now known as Baker Middle School). By 1955, there were just five active businesses within downtownHartselle: Mr Settlement’s grocery store; Mrs Settlement’s millinery shop; Wm Aiken’s school; JB's grocery store; and Mrs Hinson's journal bookstore which continued until 1935 when it was sold to Lula Mae Hinson for $3 million . Throughout these decades there were also numerous additions to downtownHartselle including a hospital (opened 1915), movie theater (opened 1929), fire hall (opened 1953), library (opened 1960), post office annexe(opened 1964), park(opened 1966) and more! In recent years some smaller businesses have closed but many others continue to operate unchanged such as T&T shoeshine (+ since 1976); Second Street Bakery (+ since 1978); Old Lady Restaurant (+ since 1985); Carrabba's Italian Grill (+ since 1990); Blue Jay Cafe (+ since 1998). All told there are currently over 50 business operating within downtownHartselles limits!

Hartselle, Alabama is a city in Marshall County, Alabama, United States. The population was 2,819 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Marshall County. Hartselle was founded on November 3, 1883 by Hartsville boosters as a small community on the east bank of Mobile Bay just south of Mobile Beach. On November 9, 1887 it became a city. The name "Hartselle" comes from early settler George W. Hartselle and his wife Martha Jane Hardison (1841-1921). George had been born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania and immigrated toMobile Bay with his parents in 1857 when he was six years old. When he married Martha Jane in 1871 she also came from Lancaster County and they were both natives of Mobile Bay (she had been born there in 1840). They moved to Hartselle about 1880 and started to build homes here. By 1890 the city had about 100 residents and growth continued until 1903 when an hurricane destroyed most of the downtown area including much of their stockyards which produced livestock for local markets. In 1902 Mayor John Capps Brownell founded what would become known as "The City Hall Company" which built new public buildings including City Hall (now known as Democratic National Committee headquarters) and several other important structures during that time period such as Court House Annexe (now Boca Raton Women's Clubhouse), Post Office Annexe (now Gulfport-Biloxi Regional Airport), Masonic Temple No 2 (now First Baptist Church), Methodist Episcopal Church No 1 & 2 (both now used for storage purposes), Park Avenue Presbyterian Church #1 & #2 (& now home to Roosevelt Middle School) and many more smaller buildings over time including: Armoury Building (#7 still standing today - see listing below), Pioneer Drive Schoolhouse & Playground (& later home to Mrs Lakin's grocery store), Third Ward Temperance Union Meeting House (& later home to Hoover Drug Store) On October 15, 1907 Pamphlet M-4 published by The National Archives contained plans for a proposed courthouse complex located at present day Fourth Ward corner of Park Avenue North & US 31 Alternate/Old Meridian Streets near where Andrews Air Force Base now stands; this project never came to fruition but did result in another addition to downtown Hartselle - The Hartselle Blockade Depot which stand today just east of Main Street between US 31 Alternate/Old Meridian Streets & Park Avenue North
Hartselle was founded in 1868 by John F. Hartselle, a white man and son of a cotton planter. The town grew rapidly during the late 1870s and 1880s, as people from surrounding counties came to work in its mills and mines. By 1900, Hartselle had a population of 681 residents. In the 1930s, the town's economy shifted towards agriculture, but it continued to grow through the years until the early 1990s, when it lost its status as an agricultural center due to increased competition from neighboring cities. Today, Hartselle is primarily known for its history and cultural attractions. Its main attraction is the Hartselle Museum of American History, which provides access to artifacts from various United States cultures. Other attractions include a park with beaches and playgrounds for children; an opera house; and a library built in 1926 that has been used as a museum since 1998.
