Gulf Shores is a city in Bibb County, Alabama, United States. The population was 9,139 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Bibb County. Gulf Shores was founded on December 12, 1871 by J.D. Tate and John Burt from Mobile, Alabama and named for the gulf that surrounded it at the time of its founding. The city was incorporated on November 3, 1907. The first settlers in Gulf Shores were James Gist and his family who came to town in 1877 from Mobile with their dog Boomerang as their guide animal. In 1902, J.D., his son Willard Easley Jr., brother-in-law Wm Henson and others bought 640 acres (2 km²) of upland within present day Gulf Shores limits from Pemberton & Sons which included parts of downtown streets as well as most of what is now Cedar Shoals east of I-10
