Gulf Shores is a town in Alabama, United States. The population was 5,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Mobile-Towson Metropolitan Statistical Area. The junction of US 20 andAlabama 1 forms Gulf Shores, which also includes parts of Baldwin County and Tanana County. The first permanent white settlers in Gulf Shores were those who came from Mobile Bay to explore the area in 1822. They named their settlement after the gulf where they had landed: Gulf Harbour on Pensacola Bayou (now Lake Pontchartrain). They built wharves and erected mills on the bayou for export of cotton, tobacco, and other products. By 1830, even more people had come to live here; most of them were farmers who grew rice and corn. In 1832, when Indian removal began in what is now Florida, some of these settlers took up arms against the Seminole Indians, who had been living among them for centuries. In 1835 a group of men from Mobile Bay set out to found a new town here called Red Bluff on land that still belongs to that city today. After some initial struggles with Native Americans over land rights (the Battle of Horseshoe Bend helped solidify this idea), Red Bluff became one of the most successful towns in Alabama during its early years; it boasted a schoolhouse, storehouses, blacksmith shop, Baptist church (built by African Americans), newspaper office (founded by one such man), doctor’s office (opened by Dr John Sibley [later known as Judge John Sibley]), hotel suite ( opened in 1840 by Samuel Fenton ), and several thousand residents by 1840! During Reconstruction following America’s civil war (1865-1868), many African Americans left Gulf Shores for areas like Birmingham or Nashville because there was no chance they would be reemployed here after being freed from slavery – although they did find work at local plantations as cooks/drivers/gardens etc.; some took up farming themselves once they were released from bondage. In 1925 an Act was passed Congress designating Gulf Shores Municipal Airport as a National Aeronautics & Space Administration field station; it remains today one of only two airports ever designated as National Historic Landmarks within Alabama! In 1966 Gulf Shores won its first major award when it was selected as host city for the annual Negro World Fair which took place at Ebony Park near downtown Mobile; since then it has been hosts to numerous cultural events including car shows/universities open unto all typesof students!, art exhibitions/, music festivals/. . . until recently being home to both UNESCO World Heritage Site “Birmingham Civil Rights Museum” - making it one OF ONLY 8 US LOCATIONS TO hold this distinction! What makes Gulf Shores so special is not only does it have all this history but also TODAY IT IS A GREATPlace TO LIVE WITH ALL ITS CULTURE AND ENTERTAINMENT VALUE!

Gulf Shores is a town in Autauga County, Alabama, United States. The population was 1,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Birmingham metropolitan area. Gulf Shores has been inhabited since the Mississippian culture lived in this area about 12,000 years ago. The first white person to live in Gulf Shores was John D'Arcy who arrived in 1825. In 1871, Gulf Shores became a town when it amalgamated with other towns in Clay County to form the new Autauga County. The history of Gulf Shores goes back to 1825 when John D'Arcy settled here and started trading goods with Indians from Mississippi and Georgia on his boat the "Cyclone". He built a log cabin here which he named "Dixie" after his home state of Florida where he had come from before being evacuated during the War of 1812 as part of General Andrew Jackson's army. For many years this was the only white settlement in that part of Clay County and it soon became a center for trade with Indian nations because its location made it an ideal spot for fishing and hunting given its access to several waterways. In 1861, while Union forces were fighting Confederate forces south of Mobile Bay, local farmers banded together to try and stop their advance. They succeeded but also suffered heavy losses including one man killed and four men wounded by Confederate sharpshooters while they were trying to cross a stream near present-day Gulf Shores. This event helped give impetus to development around here as people realized that if they could keep those troops at bay long enough, they might be able to build some sort of defenses against them – something that would prove very useful later on during the Civil War when southern railroads needed access to Indian Territory for supplies ( primarily cotton). During World War II, USS Decatur (DE-615) conducted Operation Neptune's Spear offshore offAlabama coast on November 10th 1945 which resulted in Japan surrendering unconditionally following three days full of naval engagements around Hankinson Atoll including two suicide bombings inside Japanese military installations targeting Uboats moored there including one which killed 50 sailors & marines plus another explosion aboard ship responsible for sinking battleship Arizona resulting in loss of life among 350 sailors & marines onboard ship including officers & men from USS Lexington (CV-2) who fought river duty all day long just miles away from shoreline! After World War II ended there wasn't much development done until 1980 when entrepreneur Donny White opened White's Place restaurant - now known as Donny White's Hamburgers - downtown GFSBTL which quickly gained national attention due largely to its then unheard-of Angus beef burgers cooked over an open flame indoors! That same year also saw construction begin on what is now known as gulf shores high school - now Gwinnett High School - which went up just across town from Donny White's original restaurant site giving residents easy access both into& out of town without having too much hassle or traffic congestion! After more than 25 years operating business here we are proudto say we have served our community faithfully!!!!
