Gardendale is a small town located in Montgomery County, Alabama. The population was 5,795 at the 2010 census. The original name for Gardendale may have been chosen because it is on a bend in the river Mobile River which flows through Montgomery County into Tennessee; this river has many DEWs (deep water wells) near its banks making it ideal for agriculture production The history of Gardendale goes back to 1814 when James Garland set up shop in what is now downtown Gardendale as an academy to teach young men how to farm. By 1840 he had moved his school across country to what is now Vestavia Hills where he taught farming techniques to prominent citizens including President James K. Polk who also attended his classes. It wasn't until 1865 that Garland opened up his own grocery store on Main Street which would remain open until 1966 when it closed due to lack of customers combined with advances in technology such as frozen food storage systems that made supermarkets more accessible than ever before! A post office called "Westminster" was established in 1814 by Major Benjamin Flowers from Stroudsburg Township but it didn't take off and closed within two years due to low demand from residents thereabouts so Garland renamed his business "Gardener's". He continued trading under this name until 1867 when he changed it back to "Garland" after becoming successful enough at running his business that he decided not go anywhere else but open another store right next door!
