In 1924 Gardendale became an incorporated town with government services provided by a board of commissioners elected by residents. At that time there were only two schools within reach so most township citizens went to school outside rather than build themselves another schoolhouse which would have required heavy investment plus tax payer support! Today there are nine public schools within five miles radius making it easy for anyone regardlessofincome or educational background to get his/her education! In 1881, a post office was established at Gardendale with Fayette County as its customer base. The first store in Gardendale opened in 1882 and the first settler was J.C.Mills who arrived in 1883 with his family from Georgia. The community grew rapidly due to agricultural production by local farmers and construction of roads, bridges and other infrastructure by locals and settlers alike during the late 19th century which helped support nearby businesses such as Cement Works (founded 1870), T-Bone Steak House (founded 1902) and Hartsfield-Jackson Airport (opened 1945).
