Today, Gadsden is an ethnically diverse city with a population of over 100,000 residents who hail from all over Alabama but especially Mississippi (where most residents are descended from slaves), Georgia (where most residents are descended from slaves), Louisiana (where most residents are descended from slaves), Florida (where most residents are descended from slaves), Texas (which has some slave descendants), North Carolina (which has some slave descendants) and Arkansas (which has some slave descendants).
