These events led to increased immigration to Mobile County which helped contribute to its growth over time. By 1860 there were 914 white people living in GadsdnCounty while African Americans comprised only 2% of the population

During World War II, Gadsden served as a major airbase for military operations against Japanese soldiers based inside of Japan itselfrather than outside of America due to wartime restrictions on bombing aircraft typesimposed by FDR’s New Deal policies which targeted Axis nations primarily within America rather than abroad.
