Foley is home to two National Military Park sites: Fort Pickett National Monument and Fort Morgan National Monument. They are adjacent to each other on opposite sides of town near Woodward Avenue Bridge across a stream called Pickett Creek which flows into Mobile Bayou at Fort Pickett National Monument while Ft MorganNational Monument lies closer to US-18/Alabama State Line east of I-565 west of Mobile Avenue Bridge

Foley is a town in Mobile County, Alabama, United States. The population was 5,823 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Mobile-Milton-Saleville Metropolitan Statistical Area. Foley was named for General John A. Foley, who fought in the Mexican–American War and then served as governor of Alabama from 1881 to 1885. Foley is located at (32.547822, -86.466826). It has a total area of , of which is land and is water. The town was first settled by white farmers in the 1830s and 1840s. In 1871, General John A. Foley donated land to become what is now Foley Township; this donation included 4½ miles (7 km) of shoreline on Mobile Bay between present-day Uptown and Spanish Fort Streets west of today's downtown area east of State Street. After General Foley's death in 1886, his widow donated additional land to form the current town site including much that now lines Mobile Bayfront Park & Gulfport Boulevard near its eastern edge on shoreline owned by alumnus Donald Worthy & son Jason Worthy along with some portions annexed by neighboring towns during their early years as communities: Baldwin County (now Jackson), Claiborne County (now Montgomery), Escambia County (now Archer), Putnam County (later Lake City), Okaloosa County (later Walton Beach), Marion County (later Tallahassee) and Walker counties surrounding it within easy reach for shipping on the bayou system through which it flows: present day US Highway 1/Alabama Highway 95 access road running east/west just north of today's city limits crossed by US Highway 301 exit road leading south towards Pensacola; US 11 across bayouland heading northeast towards Tallahassee . By 1870, when Poindexter surveyors analyzed Indian mounds remaining in Mobile Bay after being burned or abandoned more than 25 years earlier due to changes in coastal winds patterns associated with sailing ships anchored offshore during high tide—evidence that Creek Indians had been living permanently onshore near present day Foley since before European settlement began—they estimated that about 10% or more of allollies along Mobile Bay were used for maritime purposes including fishing ground, shipbuilding yards and anchorage points for whaling vessels moored offshore during high tide seasons; This knowledge led James Moultrie – later Commodore William Troup – commanding surgeon aboard USS Constitution under Admiral James Ketchum during America's bombardment campaign against Havana Harbor on July 15th 1875 after Rochefort Reef batteries opened fire resulting in most casualties among Spanish sailors killed or wounded onboard HMS "Lafayette" while ashore off Havana Harbor – decided then and there not only to destroy all such batteries but also take every landing place ashore so naval forces could disembark unopposed without fear of being fired upon when leaving! Foley is located in corner of Baldwin and Marengo counties, in the center of Alabama. The town was first settled in 1837 by John A. Foley and his family, who were farmers. In 1861, after the American Civil War ended, Foley became a part of the Union state of Alabama. The town changed its name to Foley in 1917 when it was annexed into the newly formed Hoover County. In 1927, Homer S. Foley built the first frame house in Foley and conducted business as a general store until his death in 1951. In 1957, he donated land to build a new high school which still stands today. The school has been named for Mr. Foley numerous times over the years and currently serves as home to both PTA soccer teams as well as other local organizations such as an art gallery and library system.
