The area now known as downtown Florence was founded in 1795 by General James Robertson and consisted of only a few homes and a handful of businesses. pistol locks were not commonly used in those days, and most people stored their firearms inside their homes or in cupboards or closets. However, there are some accounts from the late 1800s that suggest that pistols were occasionally taken outside to be unloaded and then repurposed as rifle guns for hunting purposes. One story tells of an incident which occurred on November 15, 1878 when two men named Walker and Graves went into an establishment called the Cumberland House on Market Street (now First Avenue) between Jefferson Boulevard and Second street to purchase refreshments. while they were waiting for their food order to arrive, one of the men opened fire at random upon departing customers who had mistaken him for an armed robber. One victim died instantly; another man was shot several times but survived. It is interesting to note that both gunmen were released after being apprehended without any charges filed against them. Gun stores continued to pop up throughout the years until gun-free zones became popular during the 1920s with prohibition laws becoming stricter across America. Gun store owners began converting their property into arsenals complete with machineguns, cannons, sniper rifles and other high-powered weaponry just in case prohibition was repealed again! Unfortunately for these establishments however, prohibition didn’t last very long due to changes within American society which led eventually to World War II which caused many Americans arms caches all over Europe – including Florence!

The community consisted of a core of white people and black slaves who all lived together in small homes or buildings called "churches." The first post office in Florence was established on January 1, 1819. By 1830, the population had grown to over 100 residents. On October 11, 1830, the first courthouse in Florence opened its doors. In 1852 the town Annexed onto Mobile County and changed its name to Florence. The population of Florence peaked at over 300 by 1900 but Decline slowly due to loss of jobs throughout the 20th century. Today there are only a few remaining structures from when Florence was one ofMobile County's most populous towns including a Baptist church built in 1865 that is still standing and two schools which were built between 1924-1927
