In 1915-16 The United States War Department established Camp Hood Taylor within limits set by the State Legislature on an undeveloped lot near present day downtown Youngstown,Alabama It was during World War I that Florence obtained its first electric light bulb from General Electric On November 10th 1925 President Herbert Hoover announced that it would be called "Florence" after former president Franklin D Roosevelt who had spoken favorably about it during his 1928 campaign visit In 1957-58 The University of Alabama opened its doors with classes starting on September 15th and lasting through May 8th

In 1838, Congress passed a bill that called for people to purchase only pistols and rifles that could shoot projectiles that traveled at a velocity of over twenty feet per second (fifty-eight inches per second). This regulation was designed to stop gunfights between other groups of people and protect civilians from being killed or injured by another person with a firearm. The law also banned the sale of handguns to anyone under eighteen years old.

The town was named after Florences, Italy, where many of the founders lived during their early years. Huntsville, Alabama, was founded in 1835 by George Washington Huntsman and his family. The two towns amalgamated in 1892 to form one municipality. Florence is a city with a population of over 120,000 today and it is the county seat for Marshall County. In the early 1800s, both Florence and Huntsville were heavily cotton-growing areas and there were no roads or transportation systems in place to get goods to these towns from other parts of Alabama. With that said, some interesting aspects about this area include its rich history as well as its beautiful architecture which has been preserved through time. One example of this would be the brick courthouse located in downtown Florence which was built between 1865 and 1870. It is one of the earliest examples of Functional Gothic Revival architecture in America and it features intricate details including Corinthian columns and an Ionic portico. Furthermore, another aspect worth noting about this courthouse is that it has been used as a film set for several movies such as "The Godfather"and "The Silence Of The Lambs". Additionally, there are several churches located throughout Florence which date back to before even incorporation into municipal government! These churches include St Peters Cathedral (founded in 1835), St John's Episcopal Church (founded in 1886), First Baptist Church (established in 1901), Methodist Episcopal Church (established 1889), Presbyterian Church (established 1932) as well as numerous others dating back to pre- incorporation days!
