Fairhope is a town in Marshall County, Alabama, United States. The population was 2,931 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Mobile–Ft. Myers Micropolitan Statistical Area. Fairhope is known for its annual peach festival and its Ole Miss football game against Auburn University. The first settlers in what would become Fairhope were farmers who came to the area from Kentucky in 1819. In 1830, John Salyer organized a small group of men to purchase 160 acres (61 hectares) of land south of present-day Fairhope and name it "New Hope." The original settlers built their homes on this tract of land and began farming the land which they named "Moses' Hill." In1835, Wilson Pike purchased 5 acres (2 hectares) northwest of present-day FairhOPE from Solomon Phelps and David Crampton for $5 per acre ($40 per hectare). This acquisition was one of the largest real estate transactions in Mobile County history at that time. Pike brought his family to Live Oak Cove where he built a home which he called "Pike's Cabin" and later "Homespun Hills". He served as mayor of Mobile from 1840-1841 and 1845-1846. In 1847, John Singleton purchased 1/4 mile (0.8 kilometer) east of present day Fairhope from James Hardwick for $1 per acre ($14 per hectare). This purchase was also one of the largest real estate transactions in Mobile County history at that time because it included much valuable farmland including parts of what are nowFairhope Township and Birmingham Township. Mr. Singleton eventually sold most or all his holdings in Mobile County to John Hargrave who founded New Hope Baptist Church there in 1850s with many local pioneer families joining him soon thereafter including brothers Amos & Elisha Holmes who operated an ice cream parlor on Bayou Road nearpresent day Huntsville; Augustus Watkins Jr., father& brother Murdock Watkins ran a drugstore across Frome Street from 1901 until his death circa 1990; Harry Salyer sonofJohn Salyer took over operations after Murdock Watkins’ death circa 1990 until 2006 when Harry passed away at age 98% owner /operator - service station located off US 85 next to highway exit 9A westbound just past junction with I-10 about 4 miles north Ofmallahatchee Beach OH

The growth ofFairhope paralleled that of nearbyMobile, which had experienced significant growth during the same period; together they helped to create what is now called "the twin cities" ofMobile and Birmingham along Interstate 20 corridor south of Montgomery County line
